4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance: Poured an orange brown rust color with almost no head to speak of.
Smell: I am picking up on sweet character tied with oak and bourbon in the background. This one is hard for me to describe but unique for sure. I think I get alcohol soaked raisin or figs and some vanilla. Interesting to say the least.
Taste: Wow this one is not what I expected. I get sweetness and the trademark Firestone Walker barell program in that vanilla, bourbon and oak stand out in an unbelievable way. There are some dark fruits and some nuttiness present.
Mouthfeel: This is a velvety smooth beer for the abv. No carbonation and I actually wish there was some more present to cut some of the sweetness. The alcohol does have a warming and somewhat burn on the gums.
Overall: This is one hell of a beer but one that I believe should be shared. I really enjoyed this beer and it surprised me at how good it is.

2.3 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Strong flavor, but not a lot of alcohol content present. Muddy water appearance. Dessert spices in the flavor, which reminds me of Christmas. Sampled at Tap & Growler.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
My Bottom Line:
Toasted malts with a few caramelized sugars benefit from gentle fruitiness in this malt-driven strong ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam covers the cloudy red.
-Alcohol is well hidden for this type of powerful brew.
-You could see this as a nice Barley Wine without too much caramelization.
-The malt finish is lovely.
-While this is quite good, I can see why it is mostly being used in blends. It may not have the complexity to completely satisfy the strong ale lover on its own...
On tap at O’Brien’s.

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours rich copper with a small beige ring. Smells lightly fruity, toffee, hints of caramel. Taste is toffee, treacle, hints of caramel. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Firestone Walker Double DBA finishes with a smooth sweetness with a touch of alcohol heat.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Intense and vivid, with sweet caramel and toffee malt on the palate and subtle black fruits underneath. Charred oak and spice corral the sweetness a bit, but this is really and truly a monstrous beer. It is kind of like a prostitute. The sweetness and lingering spice keeps you coming back for more, yet the dry, morally ambiguous finish has you asking yourself what you are doing.

650ml bottle enjoyed @ home, 2013 vintage. Pours golden amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, very malty, toffee, alcohol, oak and milk chocolate. Flavour is sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied, texture is oily/thick or something in between. Finish is alchol without the burn, sweet and malty.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
2014 Vintage. Soon to be retired. The aroma on this has some vanilla and scant bourbon notes. A little buttery diacetyl, too. A little floral character is also present. Mostly hazy dark amber colored body with a small, quickly dissipating weak off-white head present. Starts with a sweet, sugary malt flavor. Nearly cloying. Bourbon and vanilla hints are very strong after the sweetness subsides. Light buttery diacetyl late. Just a super sweet sugar bomb without any sort of subtlety or balance. I’m not surprised that they are doing away with this beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy orangey amber with good legs, fair lacing and a thin collar persisting. Aroma is earthy and some citrus hop, lots of oakiness, caramel maltiness and vanilla. Taste is very much like the aroma: sweet toasty bread/caramel malt laced with spicy citrus, vanilla, wet earthy/floral hops. Light body that makes it crisp with the low carbonation.
