COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

Wow. Tasted in bottle in mid September in Baltimore. Has lively end of year holiday overtones...especially at 12%! Lots o vanilla ala holiday cookies, marzipan (almond paste) from German pastries spicy from oak and sweet caramel loveliness. Will put away some bottles for holiday cheer!

Intense and vivid, with sweet caramel and toffee malt on the palate and subtle black fruits underneath. Charred oak and spice corral the sweetness a bit, but this is really and truly a monstrous beer. It is kind of like a prostitute. The sweetness and lingering spice keeps you coming back for more, yet the dry, morally ambiguous finish has you asking yourself what you are doing.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2015 Lots of caramel and candied malt. Pours ruby without much head or lacing. A fair amount of barrel. Sweet finish with lots of booze. A little on the syrupy side. Tap at Churchkey.

650ml bottle enjoyed @ home, 2013 vintage. Pours golden amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, very malty, toffee, alcohol, oak and milk chocolate. Flavour is sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied, texture is oily/thick or something in between. Finish is alchol without the burn, sweet and malty.

Bottled, thanks AndySnow! Hazy amber, small head. Caramelly nose with vanilla and cocos. Sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Caramelly with sugar, white pepper and lots of vanilla. Warming finish.

2014 Vintage. Soon to be retired. The aroma on this has some vanilla and scant bourbon notes. A little buttery diacetyl, too. A little floral character is also present. Mostly hazy dark amber colored body with a small, quickly dissipating weak off-white head present. Starts with a sweet, sugary malt flavor. Nearly cloying. Bourbon and vanilla hints are very strong after the sweetness subsides. Light buttery diacetyl late. Just a super sweet sugar bomb without any sort of subtlety or balance. I’m not surprised that they are doing away with this beer.

Pours a hazy orangey amber with good legs, fair lacing and a thin collar persisting. Aroma is earthy and some citrus hop, lots of oakiness, caramel maltiness and vanilla. Taste is very much like the aroma: sweet toasty bread/caramel malt laced with spicy citrus, vanilla, wet earthy/floral hops. Light body that makes it crisp with the low carbonation.

2013 vintage 22oz bottle, poured into a snifter. Warm apple pie and cinnamon aromas emanate from the beer - in fact, it’s quite reminiscent of a fall spice blend / candle. Secondary aromas include, citrus, molasses, caramel, oak, and a light licorice. It’s a murky bronze color with a thin, white soap head that only retains a very thin ring and has a light runny lace that doesn’t stick. It’s highly sweet with a medium high bitterness. It’s syrupy and smooth, with a bit a stickiness as well. The carbonation is a smooth fizziness which lends to the thick texture. The full bodied beer has flavors of sweet bourbon caramel, port wine notes, apple pie, wood, cooked molasses, toffee, and light licorice. It finishes crisp with a spice cleanliness, a mellow alcohol warmth, and toffee, vanilla, and bread crust flavors which turn into an aftertaste that has a mellow burnt wood and caramel quality, but very clean for a barleywine, and dangerously drinkable for a 15% abv.

Bottle share at Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is a heavenly blend of bourbon, vanilla, caramel candies, natural fruit syrup. Taste is punchy bourbon... very rich and thick caramel notes with figs, vanilla. Some oak too. Very complex and rich... but even half a bottle was a bit much. Could’ve sniffed this stuff all night though. Amazing aroma.
