COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

on tap (FSW tap takeover) @ Livermore Saloon during SF Beer Week. Clear, red, very little head. Smells sweet, caramel, vanilla, bourbon. Taste adds fruit, oak, nuts - although it is sweet, especially up front, light alcohol burn. Medium body, low carbonation makes it drinkable. Good and different but not near my favorite Firestone brews due to the sweetness.

2yr old bottle. Pours copper color with a sticky foam that dissipates. The aroma is rich of oak and booze. It has a buttery carmel scent too. In the flavor there is a nice booziness, soft bourbon, mild bitterness, spices, and a defined sweetness from the malts. There is a possible sugar sweetner added to this beverage. Overall the finish is a nice blending of ingredients with an intensity of sweetness and dryness. It was not too bitter, malty, or boozy. Id have this again.

hopwine (266) - Bend, Oregon, USA - JUN 28, 2014
2012 Glowing muddy red-amber pour. Nose is huge oak, caramel/toffee, bourbon. Flavor is initially mild dates/prunes/raisin, followed by strong earthy oak, chewy caramel/toffee, faint herbaceous hops, fading into vanilla/bourbon heat. Oily texture, fine carbo, pleasant warming. You know youre talking about a great brewery when this is their second best barleywine...

From a 0.65l bottle @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. This is a cloudy dark plum red one with a small islandy and sidesticking beige top. Not to extreme on the nose but I get a nice gentle sweetness, its light fruity, some alcohol is cutting through and there are hints of concentrated dried fruits. Grows better and better after a while and some temperature. More alcohol in the taste also, but the surprising thing here is all that fantastic vanilla! Loads and of it! Strange as I did not notice that at all in the aroma. Slightly woody and sharp, stingy hedge like hops. Good sticky flavors all the way. 04.05.2013

Bottle from Bottledog. Spicy Demerara gloop. Almost a hint of ginger. Lovely carbonation. Rich oak. Mellow, and combined with the zing and the booze turns Into a velvety dagger between the ribs (in the best possible sense) .
