4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 joeneugs (2176) - Livermore, California, USA - JUL 22, 2012On draft at the Livermore Saloon 1 year anniversary party. It pours a cloudy amber color with a small off white head. the aroma has lots of caramel, vanilla, oak, plum and a good toasty malt quality beneath all that. I could swear that this is a bourbon barrel beer, but I guess not. The oak shines through strong again in the flavor along with caramel and vanilla. Some fruity esters near the finish. It has a very oily texture, but it’s incredibly drinkable for such a huge beer. Seriously, I could drink several glasses of this, but I won’t. Great beer.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a murky brownish-red with a white ring. Aroma of bourbon, wood, brown sugar, and malt. Taste of brown sugar, wood, hops, malt. Lingering rather watery bourbon wood with a light mouthfeel. Nice.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 tdoyledesign (64) - Michigan, USA - JUN 15, 2013
Pours a dark brown with a slight caramel hue. Aroma is very strong alcohol with some caramel and malt tones. Taste is very good but very strong in alcohol content. Definitely double in every way. Very sip-able beer that just overloads the palate with flavor.

Get in my mouth. Sweet nectar of all DIPA, super viscous, very impressive mouthfeel, with loads of scotch, caramel, and toffee on the tongue. Finish is clean but boozy, with hop complexity and gosh darn it’s just delicious.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 davey101 (513) - Connecticut, USA - JUN 9, 2013
2012 vintage, No. 001. 22 oz bomber into a Bolt Cutter glass.
A - Pours a dark red body that is somewhat clear save for a great deal of floaties in the last pour. Really not much of a head to speak of. An initial fingers worth of tan foam fades away to some thin edging. Minimal lacing.
S - The aroma reminds me a lot of Founders Doom or Boltcutter. Just a lightly hopped barrel aged barleywine/DIPA hybrid sort of thing. Rich caramel, toffee, biscuits and figs go right into some quasi-grapefruit/piney hops. Vanilla, oak, and brown sugar briefly on the end before it all gets consumed by a wall of ethanol.
T - The taste is very similar to the nose. Toffee and caramel central with some faded hops and a really nice barrel presence of butterscotch, oak, and vanilla. The alcohol is very noticeable but in a somewhat masochistic fashion. It impedes drinkability but half way into the beer I find myself enjoying its smooth burn. The finish really is fantastic. Mouth feel is a bit thin with low carbonation which suits the beer well enough.
O - I did not expect the beer to feel this massive. The booze is incredibly noticeable. Like a barrel aged old ale with a huge fruit presence but not as heavy. I wasn’t totally sold initially but I really warmed up to it. Its very unique against the masses of BA barley wines out on the market. BA Imperial Bitter...go figure!

On tap at the Common Table. Hazy brownish-red pour with a white head. The aroma and flavor of this beer are amazing. I get a good bit of brown sugar in the nose, as well as some nice juicy, sweet oranges. The flavor is very similar. In addition to the strong brown sugar notes, I get some orange and pine. Very sweet at first, with just a hint of hop bitterness. The hop flavors and brown sugar meld together very well and are very candy-like. The alcohol is present but is not overpowering. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Awesome.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Aniela (1851) - Skövde, SWEDEN - JUN 9, 2013
Bottle. Clear amber beer with a minimal offwhite head. Dill, malt and caramellaroma. Dill and malty flavour. I don´t like dillflavour in a beer :-(
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - JUN 8, 2013
Courtesy of Jesper Beautiful dark amber color, with red shades, and small head. Nice plain aroma of oak barrel. Good body strength, although the mouthfeel is not heavy; good caramel flavor, semi-sweet, with some toffee, light pleasant nuttiness, correct bitterness, some vanilla/wood presence. A good one as usual; appealing also to my non-beer-drinking friends.
