COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

Bomber. Pours murky orange-brown with a small collapsing beige head. Aroma is decadent caramel, oaky, raisins, molasses; now that I smell this, I know what a huge component this is to the Firestone Walker Anniversary beers--it smells as delicious as the best of them. Flavor is sweet and savory with a lingering licorice-tinged finish. Body seems a little thin compared to the superior Anniversary beers. I say the Anniversary beers are superior, but that doesn’t mean this is swill; this is truly delicious and masterful--it just seems obvious that it’s but one component that makes those aforementioned beers so good.

Bottle from Bert’s Pours a touch hazy reddish amber color with a decent sized tightly bubbled tan head that shows moderate retention. Aromas of caramel, brown and caramelized sugar with lots of juicy pitted fruit. Vanilla with a hint of woodiness. The flavor is sweet sugary malt with hints of oak and vanilla and a somewhat overly present alcohol heat. Hints of pitted fruits and a light smoked toffee round the flavor out. Thick body light carbonation, sticky syrupy with an alcohol burn. Very flavorful but shows all of the12% abv. could use a bit of time to mellow but I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another given half a chance.

Deep mahogany pour with a thin light tan head. Full nose and flavor of toffee, caramel and some dried fruit. Barrel influence is subtle and lasting in the finish.

Bottle, 2012. Pours cloudy hazel with some big floaties, small creamy tan head that slowly dissipates leaving nice lacing. Aroma is a wonderful blend of toffee, vanilla, bourbon, malted milk powder, dark fruits. Flavor is medium sweet and medium bitter, lots of barrel, oakiness, vanilla, toffee, dark breads. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. A touch hot and some astringency.

Draft pour at Special brews. Pours a dark reddish color. Has a sweet brown sugar like aroma. Super smooth and sweet barley wine here with a ton of raisin bread like flavors and some cinnamon like spice. Finishes sweet. Super drinkable barley wine here. Really enjoyed this.

Epic beer, incredibly complex flavors from vanilla, banana, to a hint of coconut and even some graham cracker. All just below the surface of a perfectly balanced bourbon note that does not overpower, but instead compliments the other flavors. Let stand to approach room temperature prior to drinking- cool now cold. Too many flavors may be missed if it is cold.

22 oz bottle, 2014 vintage- Pours hazy autumn orange with a one finger of white head that reduces leaving a blanket. Aroma is bourbon, wood-oak, toasted coconut, classic barrel aged Firestone. The taste is similar, oak, bourbon, coconut, some cocoa, caramel, very complex and opens up as it sits in the glass. What can i say, Firestone doesn’t disappoint when it comes to barrel aged beers!

Transfer from BA review on 10-21-13- Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a deep golden amber color with a one finger of rather fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast leaving a good level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is huge of sweetness with tons of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar aromas. Along with these smells are some more sweet doughy and bready smells as well as a light amount of the oak due to the oak barrel ageing. Rounding it all out was a light boozy smell, overall giving the brew a rather warming smell. Taste – The taste is just as the nose would have suggested, starting out with a hugely sweet flavor of caramel, and toffee. Along with these tastes was a doughy and bready taste. A brown sugar flavor comes to the tongue more toward the middle, with a bit of a oaky flavor coming to the tongue. The sweet flavors fade ever so slightly toward the end of the taste with a little bit of a boozy taste coming to the tongue. While a boozy taste comes to the tongue at the end, it is minimal in comparison to the 12 % abv of the brew, in the end leaving a warming, smooth and sweet bready flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The thick body and low carbonation really help make this a slow sipper and really accentuate all the big sweet flavors of the brew. Overall – A big and sweet brew with a nice warming and smooth feel. A nice slow sipper.
