Double Jack IPA is our first ever Imperial IPA. It features a big malty middle to cloak the high alcohol and mouth puckering hop bitterness. Huge tangerine, grapefruit and juicy fruit aroma blossom over the herbal blue basil and malt earthiness of this aggressive beer. Best enjoyed in moderation.

Firestone Walker Double Jack, Double IPA is a big malty, high alcohol, huge hop bitter concussion. Large amounts of citrus and juicy aroma laying over top of the herbaceous malty Chuck Norris fist to the mouth beer you have in front of you. Best enjoyed only after years of Texas Ranger training

BOD 11/17/15. Clear amber pour (copper) with a hint of garnet. Outstanding head volume, world class lacing and retention. Outstanding, but a bit light, nose of sweet pink grapefruit. Heavy medium body with a creamy texture. Superb carbonation with a burst of effervescence in the middle and a nice prickly finish. The flavor profile is quite outstanding. Alcohol is covered, balance is world class and complexity is fair. It begins with a rush of sweet pink grapefruit that lingers through the finish. The middle has a moderate bitterness that is rind based and the hop flavor shifts more towards classic grapefruit. Slightly past the bitterness apex, the rich biscuit malt base delivers a bready wave of sweetness that has caramel aspects over a rising tangerine influence. The finish is a slow sweet fade of rind.

A very solid IPA. The prominence of the malt backbone is what stands out most to me about this one. Very hoppy beer with a malt backbone usually found in higher abv amber ales. The flavors and aspects play separate on the tongue, but still not in a way that isn’t complimentary. Typical of a new school double IPA.

From a 355ml bottle on 28/1/2016. Pours a clear medium golden with a medium bright white head. Has a quite bold aroma with big fruity hops coming over the top of dollops of caramel malt. Exquisite from the first sip. As suggested by the nose, this has a big caramel malt background, followed by oodles of honey, and sweet mandarin, apricot strawberry and peach. The bitterness is big - grapefruity and resiny - lingering long with a hint of spice at the back. Has a full rich, body, average carbonation and has lovely mouthfeel. Displays supreme balance and depth. Damn. This is seriously right up there with the very best beers I’ve ever tried. Truly magnificent.

Bottle at home. Pours a deep golden with a small white head. Aroma is mango, caramel, citrus, slight grass. Taste is big ripened pineapple, slight caramel, big bitter hop punch, citrus, long dry finish. Perfectly balanced with a big hop presence. One of my favourites.
