Hefeweizen is a traditional Bavarian wheat beer brewed using a classic German recipe. The malt bill is 60% wheat resulting in a light approachable beer with a hazy opalescent appearance and a soft gentle texture. A special Bavarian yeast strain was selected for this beer which imparts a beautifully fruity flavor and aroma with hints of tropical fruit, banana, light citrus and undertones of clove like spice. The hopping rate is very low allowing the wheat and malt character to shine through. A perfect example of a 100% natural and traditional wheat ale. A true session beer. Paired with Anything Seafood, very refreshing on hot day.

Pour is a nice semi hazy gold with a thick and lazy head that retains decently and leaves some sloppy lacing. Smell is ripe lemon, malt, and a nice citrus bouquet. Taste follows, it’s tart forward but balanced with a long lemony dryness to it.

(En fût à la brasserie de Buellton sous le nom de Taproom Hefeweizen): Bananes et gingembre sur le même pied et dans un équilibre exemplaire, bonne dose de protéine également.

Cask at Brewdog, Birmingham. Pours slightly cloudy yellow-gold with a single finger white head. Aroma of wheat, grass, grain. Taste of initial yeastiness, then some wheat, light fruits, touch of grain, grass. Nice.

Draught at the Firestone Walker Barrelworks, Buellton, CA.
Hazy yellow golden colour with a small white head. Yeast, mild dryness and wheat in the aroma. Like a real Weizen. The flavour is yeast, wheat, dryness, mild bitterness and some grainy notes. Not a regular American Hefeweizen but a real German Hefeweizen.

[2/17/15] Draught at Firestone Walker in Paso Robles. Cloudy yellow. Aroma of banana, bread and a spicy hint. Sweetish flavor with bread, banana, graininess and a spicy finish. Quite light-bodied.

Hazy pale yellow pour with a slight white head. Wheat nose and taste. Pretty simple and straightforward. Slight yeasty finish.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 Part of a 6-pack sampler at The Yard House. Pours very cloudy, the way it should. I could smell the yeast, and I’m glad it was a small amount, because it was RICH! But, that’s what I expect from a heffe.

Draft at Angel’s Trumpet. Pours a cloudy yellow-gold with a white head. Notes of wheat, sweet malts, lemon, banana, bubblegum, and faint peppery spice. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet mouthfeel that finishes dry. Really well-done hefe.
