UPDATED: JAN 13, 2013 So, I have not rated a beer in a long time, but I have found my new favorite beer. Clear golden, dark fruits, vanilla, citrus hops, little toffee, little white grape.

Caramel and vanilla on the nose. Pours a nice deep amber, clear with minimal head. Great flavor, creamy caramel and boozy with a bitter toffee finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Strangelove’s, barrel aged per the menu. Hazy orange brown with a brief pocked head. Nose is caramel, butterscotch and apple jack with hints of whiskey. Warming medium body with a tang. Taste is grassy caramel, apple and plum brandy. Finishes dry and woody with bitter greens. Too hoppy at this point for my preference.

A blonde barleywine? What is this? Aroma is all vanilla. The smell of this makes me want to tackle a polar bear. Creamy vanilla and nutmeg spice definite this innovative brew, with caramel and toffee influences lingering enormous. Gets boozy through the finish, with spicy bourbon notes lingering for minutes. I will drink this all day. The surprise of the show at FW barrel tasting, Haymarket Chicago 5/16/15.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Churchkey. Pretty, vibrant orange pour, slightly hazy, with small white head. Nose and flavor hold huge peach and apricot brandy, definitive booze even with ~1 year of age, oak, schnapps, sherry, molasses, and hints of candied tangerine. Big, bold, but not overbearing, and somehow not as in-your-face as Stickee Monkee or Double DBA. Sweet, but balanced and welcomed in its decadence. Pretty serious stuff.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft at Churchkey’s "Firestone Walker Full Portfolio Release Party" event. Poured a hazy golden yellow color, small white head. Very smooth, sweet candy toffee notes, notes of light brittle. Light vanilla, some golden raisins. Sweet malts. Smooth, no alcohol burn, but lots of warming sensations in the belly. Solid.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a lot more tempered then some of their other big beers. Still a pretty large barrel aroma here, with some light citrus and something like plum. Pours golden amber with ok head and lacing. Light sweet finish with a hint of bitterness. Tap at Churchkey.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. A single-hopped, all-pale malt barleywine aged in brandy and bourbon barrels? Interesting. Molten gold in hue and slightly hazy, with a thin head of pure white. Peach, booze, plum, vanilla, butterscotch and caramel in the nose. The flavor is sweet, vibrant and very fruity, swirling with plum, juicyfruit, mango, pear, vanilla, caramelized sugar and peach. A nice booziness and hints of green oak emerge as well. The medium-light body has sugars that stick to the tongue, but the beer doesn’t come across as heavy. Fruity and flavorful.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at the brewery. Very pale, thin white head. Sweet malt with a tang of citrus, but both give way to the rich vanilla oak character, dominating the underlying beer. Some alcohol burn, but finish is smooth, coconutty and rich. Couldn’t drink more than a few ounces but very nice.

>> Pours murky deep orange with okay foam. Slightly off nose with mildew and tequila..moves to butter pecan, white chocolate macadamia, something says bourbon barrel in the nose, but doesn’t look like this beer is even barrel aged. Taste is cookie dough, white chocolate macadamia dessert, honey butter. Really nice all around.
