An Imperial Blonde Ale or Blonde Barley Wine; Helldorado has the lightest color of any of the beers in our barrel program but carries a great deal of interesting barrel character: vanilla, light char and amazing lavender-honey notes. Rich boozy honey liqueur character and loads of smooth sweet toasted malt to finish. The El Dorado hops dance in the background without playing a dominant role in the flavor profile. This beer gets better and better the longer it is in barrel.

On tap at XVI Celebration, multiple samples.

Appearance: Pours a bright amber gold. White film and edges.

Aroma: Citrusy hop, honey, fruit punch.

Taste: Toasty malt, euro hops, banana esters, vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Astringent, medium bodied, low carb.

Oveerall: A really odd barley wine. Didn’t get much barrel either. Doesn’t make it south often, so glad I could try it.

Kind of a strange brew that grew on me. The aroma had a lot of the barrel. The flavor had a bit of butterscotch. Burn hits the throat mid swallow. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle [from trade with iggywh] @ home. Clear orange color, average to medium sized fizzy white to off-white head that completely disappears very quickly. Aroma is malts, bourbon, vanilla. Taste malts, bourbon, vanilla, booze, caramelised sugar and honey. Mostly dominant is the boozy honey-sweetish vanilla. Unfortunately that’s not exactly what I like, guess I should have read the commercial deScription a bit better. Happy to have tried it though. Average to decent body, slight oily yet sort of thin texture, a bit fizzy carbonation.

Bottle 2015 vintage. Hazy golden color with a light head. Quite boosy when cold, but strong Honey and oak notes. When it warm up the boosy dissapear, and the honey warm sweetness appear.

Bottle, shared with Grippitis, Parksy, Faysal, Mike G, and PQ. Clear medium golden, average white head. Aroma has notes of vanilla and honey and sherry, with hot alcohol fumes. Very sweet, with loads of buttery oak, vanilla, honey, cooked pineapple, very heavy mouthfeel, low bitterness, warming alcohol in the finish. Quite alcoholic, but a nice sipper to be shared.

Bottle at tasting. Golden color. Great aroma of vanilla, bourbon booze and some caramelised malt. Rich thick taste of lots of bourbon vanilla, cream, ripe fruit, raisin and a long flavorful finish. Fantastic.

Bottle at tasting, shared by O. Cloudy orange pour with slightly off white head. Aroma of orange zest, caramel, marzipan with a sweetish orange taste together with light vanilla, caramel, marzipan and just a hint of booze. Quite special and almost like a belgian strong on steroids.

April 14, 2016 - bottle from Sage, 2015 vintage. Orange pour with limited head. Aroma was sweet caramel, vanilla, wood and some spice. Some fruit came out in the aroma as it warmed. Taste was nicely balanced with the sweetness from caramel, vanilla and toffee, but also has nice amount of wood and mild bitterness.

Shared bottle. Hazy, light orange gold, finger of foamy off-white head. Good retention, plenty of lace. Sweet aroma of lighter malts, brown sugar, toffee. Taste starts sweet as well, toffee, vanilla, smooths out with some oak and light bitter finish. Excellent

Light toffee color. Smells and tastes like candy caramel. Good if you like candy I guess, but I like beer and donnot have an American sweet tooth.
