Sampled from the tap at 2011 FOBAB. Poured a near clear gold with a slight amber hue with an off-white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had notes of sweet grains and caramel with a nice backing bourbon note. Flavor is quite full of caramel and vanilla with backing sweet grains and cookies.

I’m surprised I’m the fifth to rate this...everyone at Beer Revolution had there phones out taking notes like proper beer geeks. The aroma was a bit weak for a barley wine, but undeniably so. My notes say it had a hint of old spices...(hopefully I didn’t mean the aftershave). A good range of flavors come out, even on my destroyed palate (tasted along side XV). The flavors get lost a bit under the alcohol...once again, likely because this was fresh outta the keg. Stands out in the world of barley wines.

On tap at Beer Revolution. Slightly hazy dark golden color with minimal head. Great aroma of honey, butterscotch, syrup, and oak. Really smells great. The flavor is somewhat sweet but not too much so. Sweet malt, honey, and nuttiness, with some oaky vanilla notes. Medium-full body with low carbonation. Hell of a beer, no pun intended...or is there?

Draft at FoBAB 9. This was a pretty cool beer. Pours a blonde, slightly hazed with a pillowy head. The nose is full of vanilla and coconut, really strongly reminds me of marshmallows. Some toasty notes and raisins and prunes as well. But marshmallows dominate. On taste, fair amount of the vanilla marshmallow permeating and then fading into a soft bitterness that helps to dry it out. I can definitely see how this fits into their blends. Decent.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 IrishBoy (3336) - Bakersfield, California, USA - NOV 7, 2011
Draft at the brewpub! Nose is golden raisins, vanilla, light toffee notes, and a hint of citrusy hops. Clear yellow with a small, light lacing, yellow tinged head. Flavor is golden raisins baked into a lighty sweetened pie, vanilla, and some light hoppy bitterness; finishing lightly bitter, lightly sweet. As they called it a "blond barleywine"; loved it!
