COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oaktoberfest is a true German Marzen bier brewed with premium imported Pilsner and Vienna malts and is spiced with Bavarian hop from the mother land. Light Amber in color, soft malty profile, full bodied lager beer. Fermented with the famous Bavarian Augustiner Lager yeast from Munich. We utilized German Hallertauer Traditions for both bittering and aroma additions adding a rich, noble hop presence to this beer.

On tap at Yard House. Clear golden with white head. Aroma is caramel and bread. Taste is sweet, followed by mild bitterness. Body is light, good carbo. Don’t care for the style.

Draft. Pours a thin off white head, minimal lacing, over a clear dark gold (SRM 6) body.....nose is toasted malts, grain biscuit, toast, mild noble hops, balance to the malts......taste is toasted malts, biscuit, cereal, dry throughout, moderate noble spice and finishing bitterness, balance to the malts....mouth feel, light of medium body, moderate acid, carbonation makes a significant tingle, no alcohol. This is not as malt complex or forward as the best in this style. The malt bill needs some work. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7

Bottle. Light oaky nose with lots of yeast. Clear bright gold straw, very pretty. Light fruit, with some bitterness behind, and bit of small tang in final. Thin body. Delicate stuff. But not a lot going on. Like an underdone saison. Okay.

Pours a crystal clear yellow gold with a white head. Aroma of grassy straw. Taste is hoppy malty with a little twist of lager yeast for character. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear golden color. Small head. Aroma is slight caramel with subtle hops, grains. Slick texture. Average carbonation. Some caramel notes in taste. Smooth. I enjoyed this Octoberfest beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Nose is lightly floral noble hop, slightly grassy and very faintly citric/sunny. Pours is clear, rich golden, very vibrant with above-average carbonation, a fluffy, rocky off-white head. Taste is crisp and utterly clean, mild bitterness with a slightly grainy Vienna character, touch of grassy hops, above-average mineral bite, really outstanding lager character through and through; finish is a satisfying subtlety, a lasting and quenching woodiness with a slight wisp of bitter to lure the drinker back in. Malt is in the end somewhat underdeveloped (and the woody noble hops are allowed to shine a bit more as a result), but otherwise very true to a casky, vatted German lager, impressive.

Draft at Monks. Bright orange gold pour with a large fizzy/foamy bright white head that left lots of lace. High carbonation. Expected bready flavors balanced with some juicy amber fruit and drying oak tannins. Apricot pits. Challah. Tangerine peels. Egg yolks. Blonde leather. Full bodied.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Pint mug From: BevMo in Mission Valley (San Diego(, Calif.) Price: $8.59 (w/ BevMo card) for a 6-pack Purchased: Aug. 12, 2014 Consumed: Aug. 12, 2014 Misc.: Bottled on July 17, 2014 at 6:26 p.m. Poured a dark golden, honey, clear color with two fingers of khaki-white frothy head. A little bit lighter than I thought it would be. Nice stream of bubbles coming up from the bottom at different parts of the glass. Good amount of layered foamy lacing along the sides of the glass all the way down. Above average-to-good retention on the top all the way down. Smelled boozy malts up front, which mellowed pretty quickly. Also caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, light pumpkin, oak and toasty malt. Tasted slightly better than the nose, getting caramel, light oak, wood, sweet toffee and buttery malts. Medium body. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Abrupt finish. A pretty decent Oktoberfest. I have to say I thought it was going to be a tad better, but still decent.

Aromas of corn, wet cardboard, grain hulls, and soft bready malts. Golden color with a thin white foam. Taste is very simple lager malts, bready malts, crisp caramel, faint corn, and wheat residue. Overall, pretty standard lager overtones. Doesn’t taste too much leaning towards an oktoberfest though.

Deep gold and brilliantly clear. Aroma is melanoidiny and rich with some spicy hoppiness. Flavor is definitely much too hoppy for a true German marzen. Maltiness is a bit overshadowed by the hops but still a decently balanced beer if you grew up on California beer. Yeast character is perfect for the style. A nice seasonal.

[Bottled 7/17/14]Lighter amber color with a small white head that quickly dissipated leaving no lacing on the glass. Aroma of grassy hops, sweeter malts, earth, toast, light nuts. Taste of toasty malts, bread, caramel, nuts, and a grassy hop finish. Enjoyed more than the score indicates, probably because it’s fresh.
