3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 raphael (665) - Portland, USA - SEP 10, 2011
At Beermongers 2nd anniversary festival, was first or 2nd on this keg so got a lot of form which was very rich, on top of a hazy yellow body. aroma of oak, fresh wheat, butter. Malt forward, caramel and honey, enough of an oak/smoke presence, stronger than the hops. soft finish
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (3742) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 4, 2011
Tap at Euclid Hall - clear amber, fairly good head retention - taste is initially moderately rich and toasty Vienna malts, followed by moderately herbal, fruity and floral hops - a bit herbal and lightly woody (although it is so light, it might be my mind tricking me because of the name) - a touch of tartness on the tail end - a touch of acidity - I like like it - went well with my sausage.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 adnielsen (3755) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 2, 2011
Tap @ Falling Rock. Clear, copper appearance with a nice, off white head. Dak caramel malty, lager, lightly spicy aroma. Fairly light bodied, slightly grainy, light caramel malty lager flavor. Not too interesting and I’m not getting any oak.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 onceblind (1622) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 9, 2011
GABF 2011. Clear gold with a touch of amber, frothy white head. Delightful aroma of vanilla tinged oak, with a sweet biscuity toffee tone. Flavor of the same, but with less vanilla and a light body. Pretty dryish with some toffee and very light floral hops.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tool2scream (175) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 30, 2011
Not real exciting. Decent malt, biscuit, bread, and slight hop flavors. It’s all rather nicely blended, but in reality it was just really restrained. I’ve had much more flavor out of octoberfests and viennas, and the oak was all but non-existent. It was barely discernable. Real boring effort.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 22415brewery (246) - redmond, Washington, USA - SEP 26, 2011
On tap at Fremont Oktoberfest, Seattle WA. There as a line about 15 people deep to get this beer and I figured it must be worth it. Pours a slightly hazy deep golden with minimal head. Aromas of vanillin, biscuit, and light honey malt. Crackers and light biscuits dominate first taste, while toasted oak character dominates the finish, rounded and fairly smooth. The oak is a light compliment to a fairly light oktoberfest.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 illidurit (1300) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - SEP 12, 2011
Bottle shared at the September iteration of the Santa Cruz tasting series. Pours a clear copper color with a sticky white head. Aroma is malty and spicy, toasted cereal. Authentic German malty flavor, toasty grains and a nice mineral quality to it. Clean on the palate. Nothing too exciting but well made.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 boFNjackson (2934) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 11, 2011
Tap @ The BeerMongers Anniversary Fest... Poured amber with a khaki head. Not much to say here because not a whole lot of complexity and flavor going on. Malty, bready, a touch of caramel sweetness and a tad bitter.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 larryLSB (283) - La Selva Beach, California, USA - SEP 10, 2011
12 oz, bottle from FW, courtesy of SamGamgee. Poured bright clear golden - copper with medium white head. Nose was toasty with a hint of grass. Taste was light all around, on the dry side.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 after4ever (4500) - Brier, Washington, USA - FEB 5, 2011
Draft at Brouwer’s. Definitely giving this one high marks on appearance for style...it pours a bright, clear pale copper with a dense, creamy, tan head and virtually no nucleation columns. Mild toasty malt nose. Creamy medium body that goes a bit watery in spots, a little on the still side. Toast, caramel, and some earthy wet leaf notes on the mid palate. Mild finish.
