Our interpretation of the rustic Wallonian Saison style is a harmonious blend of rustic grains, spicy yeast and unique sauvignon blanc tones. Inviting lemon grass and gooseberry meet peppery spice and fresh grain aromas. Spicy Belgian yeast create a complex yet dry and refreshing canvas with splashes of citrus and stone fruit with a bright tropical white wine finish. Hop bitterness is assertive yet harmonious rounding out slightly tart and refreshing.

Bomber. Light yellow color, big (though wispy) head. High carbonation. The spiciness of the yeast combine with the hops to really bite your tongue. Almost winey taste. Not much malt or grain. Drier than a camel’s bunghole.

cloves and pepper in the nose with a side of yeasty funk. Billowing head on a very clear pale pour. Lemony taste, thickens as it goes, and gets drier. My initial taste was ’meh’ then ’oh yeah’. Nice fruitiness at the end too, mostly ripe banana. Good. Very well balanced and put together.

Appearance: slightly cloudy gold, with a creamy white head and good retention. Aroma: funky, with lemon rind, white pepper, damp socks (in a good way), some white grape juice and green apple skins. Taste: lemony, with some herbal and floral hop notes; there’s unripe banana, sweet pie crust, slightly sour tropical fruit; sweet, sour, and ever so slightly salty, with a bit of crackery funk, clove, lemon, and pineapple. Finish: good, refreshing palate; throat dries out at the end. Notes: Nice saison. Perfectly representative of the style when done right. Draught at Gilly’s in Rockville, Maryland.

A sweet but lemony nose. In the mouth it has a lemon curd and pastry flavor. A pastry with a dusting of icing sugar too. It’s quite a sweet beer, but a drinkable beer. There is a hint of herbal hop throughout as well.

Saison isn’t a style I’m in love with, but beers like this could change that. This pours a cloudy gold color with a tenacious, foamy head and a great deal of carbonation. The aroma has the Belgian/saison thing going on; breakfast fruits, bananas, citrus, plus dry wine notes and some twang from the hops. The flavor is all of that, but juicer and more tart through the middle than I had expected. Then the finish is bright and dry. Ommegang’s Glimmerglass had previously been my favorite saison, but I think this has the edge.

Rattle n Hum, NYC tap: Pours pale yellow with white head. Aroma is winy, a bit funky, peppery, and lemony. Taste is much the same. A bit dry in the end. Slight hops and sourness going on in there as well. Drank too quickly, but was enjoyable.

Bomber. Pours piss yellow, white head, no lacing. Aroma is saison yeast, as typical. Flavor is the same, and with pepper, grass, and certainly a heavy white wine finish. Dry, biting finish. If you’re preparing for a wine, this won’t be a revelation-- otherwise, it might be a shock. Pretty well carbonated. Drinkable? Mostly... I quite enjoy this saison, though it may not be the most complex example of the genre.

22oz bottle pours clear pale straw gold with big 3 finger head. Nose and palate are a mix of light peppery yeast, soft grain spice, golden apple, and some lemony citrus. Finish is dry with some grassy lemon and has spice yellow apple grain and balanced subtle saison yeast. Quite nice.
