Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

Bottle from Brewski 041014. Sunset golden Amber colour with a modest white head. Aroma and flavour mirror each other with fruit and a hint of malt. Only moderate ABV but you would think it was higher given the alcohol kick at the end of this beer. Fills the mouth with flavour.

Transfer from BA review on 12-9-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a nice golden color with two fingers of a foamy gold tinted white colored head. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell - The aroma is strongest of some nice hop smells being a mix of a grassy and herbal hop smell as well as some grapefruit hop aromas. Along with these smells is a nice bready malt smell as well as a decent level of tangerine sweetness, producing a rather nicely balanced pale ale smell overall. Taste – The taste begins a quite bready flavor right up front with some notes of caramel and orange. Some hop of a grassy and lighter grapefruit nature are there from the start as well. The grapefruit hop continues to strengthen throughout the taste and is later joined by a nice level of an herbal hop flavor. While this change in hop potency and presence occurs, more citrus sweetness comes to the tongue in the form of a bit of tangerine. A lighter buttery biscuit flavors also come to the tongue more at the end of the taste, with the combination off hop, malt and sweet leaving a smooth and very satisfying flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – .For a brew of only 4.9 % abv. the body of the beer is on the average to above average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is a bit on the higher side. Both are quite fantastic for the flavors of the beer, combining with the crisp tastes and making it very easy drinking. Overall – While not a union or double jack in flavor potency, this modest brew packs tons of flavor into a mere 4.9 % abv. Really, this is a very balanced brew at a more modest abv, with a great flavor profile and a wonderful drinkability. Fantastic for the style!

Bottled 02/2014. Pours a light golden honey color with a small white head that dissipates quickly and notable lacing. Aroma is orange, grapefruit, sweet malts, lots of citrus. Flavor is very sweet up front, almost candy-like. Certainly a less bitter strain of hops, more sweetness in the middle of the mouth and a long bitter clean finish and aftertaste. Medium carbonation. It’s light and very drinkable.

"very floral and fruity, especially for the style, without being overbearing. Definitely a nice example of the style, especially when fresh. Tropical fruit and flowers and enough malt to balance all in a light-bodied refreshing package. Is this really so different from their old pale ale, or is it just fresher?"

Light gold (borderline lager) look with piney aromas with and a hint of lemon zest. Balanced toasted malts with citrus hop flavors up front but which seem to completely disappear before hitting the back of the mouth. Lacks character. Will not repeat.

Appearance: Brilliant sparkling transparent light golden body with a fluffy white head. Good lacing. Aroma: Light fruity aroma, like tangerine, mango, and peach. Taste: Very light flavors. Low bitterness, very little malt character, and a hint of pine. Palate: It has a great palate, being both refreshing and containing just the right amount of bitterness to cleanse the palate. Light bodied. Overall: It is a very good light feeling American Pale Ale. It edges right on the lower side of everything, from bitterness to aroma and flavor. It is would be a good beer to drink at a picnic or an early morning to afternoon event which serves beer. I recommend trying it if you like pale ales but don’t want a lot of bitterness.
