COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of thirdeye11 (thanks!) poured into a pint glass. Golden color, just a bit cloudy, with a thick head that leaves some lacing. Wonderful fruity citrus aroma -- very strong and bold for a pale ale. Apricot, grapefruit, apple and honey aromas -- smells like a fresh fruit cup. Nice and well balanced. Apple and citrus flavors with some malty sweetness. Not as hoppy as the aroma would indicate -- what I would expect from a pale ale. Medium to light bodied with a dry, peppery finish. Very smooth and easily drinkable -- this would make a really nice session beer -- if only it were available in this area.

Rerating as of a few beers later........ Beer is an excellent session ale. Aroma is sweet malty and light citrus hops, bright. Appearance is orange brown. Crystal clear. Small white head. Taste is malt and hops balanced very nicely. Hops are very floral and citrus, slight earthy. Honey, caramel, strawberry... very mild. Palate is light, a little watery, drinkable. Overall this is a very nice beer. Hops are perfect IMO. Could have a bit fuller palate for my liking, but perfect for session drinking. Excellent session beer. One of the best commercial examples I have had.

12 oz bottle. Grass, resin and floral abound on the taste buds. Decent beer but have had better in the style.

Pale golden pour with a thick white head. The nose is lightly piny with a soft earthiness in addition to a lot of grapefruit and pale malt. Bright and clean with excellent balance. It’s a simple brew, but it’s very tasty.

On tap at the taproom in Buellton. Firestone-Walker’s slogan is "passion for the PALE," and this beer really exhibits that, as it is one PALE-ass beer. PALE golden in color with a one-finger PALE white head that has decent retention. The aroma has just a hint of sweet PALE malt, with loads of west coast hops lending citrusy, herbal, and earthy notes. The flavor also has a little PALE malt, but that gets out of the way for the hops, as this is a true west coast style PALE ale. Orange, grapefruit, earth, herbal qualities, and resin. Medium-bodied with a good level of carbonation, and considerable hop resins. A solid PALE ale overall. Sort of like a toned-down Union Jack if I had to call it anything. Enjoyable.

Pours a nice clear golden color with a white head that sticks to the top of the glass. Aroma is mild hops and some some sweetness. Taste is very crisp and refreshing with nice hop presence and some maltiness at the same time. Very enjoyable.

Pours a clear yellow/orange. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, floral hops. The head is off-white and quickly disappears. Flavor is very light, sweet with a mild bitterness. The finish is a little bitter and hoppy. The beer overall is well balanced and very drinkable!

7/10/10. My first ever Firestone Walker brew, with HUGE thanks to mkade for an awesome Secret Santa box! Pours a muddled orange with a fluffy white head that fades to a ring and a film in a few minutes. The aroma is big time west coast hops - piney, some pot, a hint of pee, and lingering flowery citrus. The flavor is much the same but with a bigger hint of sour and a surprising dry grainy malt backing that reminds me of pilsner malt. Quite tasty!
