Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

Draft at Churchkey. Pours a clear orange. Nose and flavor are marked by peach, bread apricot, and light European hop presence. Such a nice balance of sweetness and non-aggressive hop bitterness. So balanced, and delicious.

On cask at Churchhills, compliments of the bar keep for sharing my Churchhills Finest hour with him and other patrons. Pour is a clear yellow gold, medium white head. Lacing was alright at first but did not last. Aromas of pale malt, grassy non aggresive hops, cucumber. Taste is honey, sweet malt bill. Alright lacked flavor and carbonation coming from the cask. Boring finish.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle is clear yellowish orange with nice lacing white head, aroma brings notes of some lemon, bready notes, touch of grapefruit. Taste is nice bitter lemon peel, touch of pine and grass, some biscuit and bready notes, goes into a touch of grapefruit, finishing fairly clean. Nice.

A nice citrusy pale ale. A bit too sweet but pretty drinnkable. Golden orange, small head with lots of lace. Full bodied with mild carbonation.

Pours golden and clear. Some head and carbonation. Taste and aroma are both express pine and citrus. With a very strong pine in the taste and a cooling menthe flavor in the finish. There is a healthy dose of toasty malt up front as well. This is a nice pale ale but the pine is a little overpowering for me and comes off a little unbalanced. Should make for some interesting food pairing.

Not sure what was going on here. Draught from brou lane. Poured an attractive gold. Not much aroma. Mild hops I guess. Strangely astringent taste. . Neh.

Draft at Brouwerij Lane, Fresh Pine and citrus hop aroma. Forward pine hops with some citrus on the palate, clean and crisp , nice dry finish, a well executed pale ale, easy drinking.

The pour is a clear, orangey, golden color with a fairly small, white, pillowy head which is mostly diminishing. The nose is very floral, some resins, orangey citrus, and some biscuits. The flavor is decidedly more passive with more biscuity notes, the citrus becoming almost limey, and slight resins. The palate is lively, light to medium, lightly crisp, and drying slightly. The finish carries a moderate bitterness, a limey citrus, and biscuits still. A fairly easy drinking, hop forward, session pale. The hop notes were pleasant but simple and the biscuit notes were a bit too overwhelming. Not bad for a <5% pale but fairly pedestrian.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2013 Bottle 3 months old. Clear gold color with soft lasting head and lace . Vibrant floral and citrus greats the nose with a surprising light anise, menthe, or pine aroma. Flavor is cool citrus element, clean grain and light tropical hops. Feel fresh, lively, and full. Really nice. Could drink these forever. Just what I want a place to be.

Hops are the star of the show here. A very tasty pale ale. Crisp, clean, floral and citrus (tangerine and orange) Light, but assertive. One of my favorite Pale Ales
