Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

Soapy, a bit hoppy, very well balanced aroma with a bit leather feel to do the malts, very intruging. The taste is very very well balanced but with little bitterness, and very clean, with some hoppy aroma that resemble lemons without the sourness, very clean, easy going and enjoyable.

12oz bottle from Julio’s.
Appearance : Clear pale yellow with small foamy head. Lots of lacing but head is a bit short lived.
Aroma : Biscuity malts with citrusy and floral hops. Slightly herbal as well. Nice malt.
Taste : Malty with citrusy hops. Slightly piny and slightly resinous. Floral as well. Finish malty with floral and citrusy notes. Slightly resinous. Moderate but fairly persistent resinous notes on the finish with nice malt.
Palate : Moderately llively carbonation. Quaffable.
Overall : Really nice beer. More malt forward than most US APA but I like that. I agree with the description, crisp floral hops with a medium body.indeed. Maybe it’s not super fresh so the hops is a bit muted but this doesn’t taste old so I presume it’s just the way they wanted it and it’s pretty nice like that. This could easily become my go-to session beer if only it was available here.

Bottled poured into a nonic pint glass. Deep gold hay pour, thin white head. Aroma of lemongrass, orange zest, grass. Taste is juicy, lemon, orange, grass, bit of sweet malt. Bit of a bitter bite. A tad thin. Would drink Pivo Pils or Easy Jack over this.

The date on the side of the bottle says "03/11/14." At 4.9%, should I be worried here on May 25, 2014? After smelling and tasting, I say no, and here’s why. I poured this into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice transparent super light yellow to orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dies within less than a minute and leaves a nice foamy spotted lacing sticking nicely to the sides of the glass. The smell was quite floral yet citrusy in a nice light sort of way. The taste was florally sweet with the citrusy aspect only slightly being there. There is no aftertaste. But there is a decent citrusy dry finish. On the palate, this beer sits exceptionally light and shows a great sessionability about it. The carbonation has a decent harshness about it. Overall, I say this is a very nice American Pale Ale by Firestone Walker and I would gladly love to have this again fresher.
