COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

Bottle, 4.9%. Very piney aroma. Clear shiny yellow colour. Big plasticky but stable white head. The flavour is also piney, but mostly teaish, like those teaish sweets. Caramelly tea, I guess. But balanced off by a good bitterness.

Bottle bought at GBBF 08. I love these Californian pale ales, so easy drinking. First beer of the day at 20.50 straight out of the fridge and straight down my throat to quench my throat. Moderate grapefruit hop on aroma, just enough malt to keep it all together and a light stinging lingering grapefruit hop finish. Just a perfect quaffing beer. Wish I had another 4 or 5 in the fridge as this one has seemed to disappear in about 5 minutes. Boy, was I thirsty.

On tap at Firestone Walker Taproom, Buellton. A clear golden beer with a dense, finger thick off-white head. The aroma is grassy and piney, like smelling a hop pellet. Some tropical fruits and sweetish pale malts too. The flavor has a nice bitterness, along with the other hoppy things found in the aroma. Some sweetness. Full to medium body, velvety. Long finish. A nice one, although a bit simple. 130809

(Bottle) Pours a clear golden body with a small white head. Fresh aroma of pineapple, citrus, and pine. Flavor of malt, citrus hops, and a hint of nuts in the finish.

(12oz bottle) Crystal clear light amber body topped by medium off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, floral/orange, some caramel, light grapefruit. Taste is medium sweet, orange/grapefruit, some caramel, light pineapple, bread. Light-medium body, quite drinkable. This is straightforward, but flavorful and well done -- fits squarely within the APA style. On some days there’s a decent chance I’d call it boring and give it around a 3.2, but for whatever reason, it works well tonight.
