COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

A: Pours a deep gold with a nice wheat head. S: Plenty of hops for the style with some mild sweetness. T: Slightly sweet malt with some citrus/grapefruit hops. M: Medium bodied and well-carbonated. D: Quite good in this department. A nice, low abv beer with plenty of hops--my definition of great session-style drinkability. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-01-2009

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass. Had less than a ¼-inch of head. Color was a lighter orange/gold combination. Slight lacing left after pour. Very slight film throughout the glass. Smelled plenty of strong flavors. First smell is citrus, mainly lemon and orange. Some pine in there, too. Smells crisp and fresh. Tasted like a combination of citrus and pine needles. Followed with some grapefruit and orange peels. More hoppy than I thought it would be, but overall a pretty good balance. Good mouthfeel. Refreshing throughout and never lost its taste. Crisp and refreshing. All the flavors work together well. Higher on the carbonation. Have always loved this beer. Despite finally rating it, I hardly think it changed from my first sip a few years ago. Crisp, clean and refreshing.

Bottle. Poured golden with a sweet malty aroma. First taste noticed a light, yet crisp carbonation. Overall went down smooth and very refreshing. Sweet taste.

Hands down my favorite pale ale. The Aroma is awesomely floral with pine and citrus. Appearance is nice and golden with slight white head retention and moderate lacing. The taste is sweet malt at first then transitions to a nice, bitter, piney hop. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall this is a fantastic pale ale, nice flora hop aroma, with IPA like hop taste, but with only 4.8% abv. Very sessionable!

I’ve had this beer many times, both on tap and in the bottle. It has never tasted the same each time. Fortunately, this time (out of the tap), it suited my taste better than any other. It pours a beautiful golden color with a distinct citrus bouquet. No head at all, but this is likely the bar tender’s choice in the way she poured to fit as much beer in the pint as possible. An easily discernible citrus up front with an alternating citrus and less present pine at the finish. A well-balanced grain and hop concoction. An excellent example of a pale ale. A competitor for Sierra Nevada as a go to, quintessential American pale ale.

There’s something about this beer that’s just really enjoyable. I drank this out of the bottle, and it pours a light copper color with a small off-white foamy head. It’s dry-hopped nature gives this beer both a floral, citrus nose which I found quite pleasing, and have a nice crisp clean flavor that light, with the right amount of hoppy bitterness, but a decently clean finish. It’s 4.9% abv too is quite enticing, as it makes it possible to enjoy this beer a few times over. All in all I will say that if you’re looking for a a nice american pale ale that exhibits many great qualities of the style, and something with a nice average abv the Firestone Pale 31 is perfect.

Had it at the Chicago Craft Beer Festival 6/22/13. Very fruity / potpourri aroma, light head slight watery but a good pale ale.

A hop explosion in the nose. Glowing gold. Clean, crisp, herbal. Low abv, splendid summer refreshment. Bottle at redhot, Munich.

Glad to see this being imported to Germany! Unique aroma that I have been missing in European beers.
