Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

courtesy of Jürg Kohler - light blond-orange beer with a poor foam left; pineapple and grapefruity hoppiness; medium-bodied, decently tasty and quite bitter; moderate carbonation; pretty dry and long fruity hoppy reminiscence of bitter oranges and grapefruit

Gedronken op mn verjaardag samen met dutchdrebus. Ruikt hoppig en fruitig. Smaakt hoppig, granen, fruitig, zoet, smaakt naar lange vingers, beetje muf.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2013 Appearance: sudsy 1" off white head recedes quickly with nice lacing. Color is clear rich gold with mild streaming carbonation. Aroma: citrus and floral aroma dominates, some caramel and bread dough in the background. Mouthfeel: light and somewhat sticky mouthfeel with a somewhat dry finish. Flavor: balanced hop and malt flavors. The sweet caramel and bready malts lead the way, followed by citrus and then a lingering bitterness in the swallow. Overall: a pleasant pale ale and representative of the style.

On tap at My Wine Cellar. Pours light golden with a thick, foamy head. Aroma of citrusy hops (orange, tangerine), heavy wet alfalfa, some pine, and a light, grassy wheat tone. Crisp, refreshing taste of pine resin, juicy orange, and moderate woody bitterness. A lovely, sessionable pale.

Good pale ale, although somewhat more subdued than I would’ve liked. Pours a fluffy white head that dissipates quickly. Medium gold colour. Great citrusy, somewhat musky aroma. Well-carbonated. Cereal notes on the nose, with a sharp, hoppy, rather bitter finish. All in all somewhat weak in the palate for a top pale ale, but still very enjoyable.

From bottle, bbe 10.12.2014. Nice pale goldebn colour. Aroma is malty and fudge-like. Taste follows aroma with piny bitterness.

Bottle from Bob’s.

Gold pour, full white pour. Grapefruit and pineapple dominate the aroma with some floral goings-on as well. Bready malts meet crisp but not aggressive hops in a flavor that is similar but less metallic than some "Californian pale ales" I can think of. Just a touch of toffee sweetness. Unchallenging but all the more enjoyable for that.
