COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Parabola has been a major component of past anniversary blends and is one of our most aggressive offerings. This beer features bold bourbon and tobacco aromas and a rich dark chocolate, charred oak flavor. Parabola is best enjoyed in moderation and is a perfect beer to pair with those chocolate dessert favs.
An extension of Quercus Alba —the Firestone Walker Barrel aged program. Russian Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels.

Draft at Jerry’s. Black with modest brown head / Medium to full body, acidic and chewy, good balance with dry, lightly hot, finish / Flavors of dark roast coffee, caramel, unsweetened chocolate, plum, oak, and restrained bourbon/coconut / Very good but didn’t compare to Founders Breakfast Stout tried the same night.

Medium sized brown head with fair retention and minimal lace. Yup, its black. Nose of booze, chocolate, light coffee, hint of vanilla and cherries. Booze dominants. Body is full, oily on the palate, smothering. Booze flavors, not whisky of any type, booze, up front and big. Chocolate, caramel, mushrooms, earth, dirt and some coffeeish notes. Boozyness is a bit much. Sweet finish, bit acidic. Lasting but not in a good way. Was looking forward to this but not surprised to be somewhat let down by it either. FW is a fairly overated brewery, imho any ways. Meh, no biggy. Still enjoyed it, in a weird sort of way. Props to GMCC2181 for the bomber! Gabe rocks!

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2012 I’m usually pretty skeptical about beers that receive as much hype as this one has. That said, this beer is phenomenal. Pours solid black with a thin brown head. Aroma of wood, molasses, maduro tobacco, chocolate, some soy, leather, fig and date. Taste has lots of sweetness but also a sharp earthy bitterness, lots of burnt ashy malt flavor, alcohol is fairly noticeable but not too hot.

22 oz bomber cracked with Mark. Pours a serious black with a small brown head. Nice nose of bourbon, sweet chocolate, toffee and burnt malts. Flavor is huge - brown sugar, vanilla, loads of bourbon. Some heat and caramel on the finish. Oily body with a bitter aftertaste.. 2011 version, so could use some age to mellow a bit

Poured from a bottle. Pours a nice and dark with loads of head and lacing. Bourbon on the nose, but so smooth to taste. Chocolate, licorice, and bourbon on the taste. Some nice warming heat on the way down.

Tap at Papago. Thick black pour with a dense creamy head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, toasted marshmallows, wood, fruit and coffee. All of this and more comes out in the flavor. Really good stuff!

Barrel Aged, 2011. Bottle. Almost black and opague. Roasted malt, raisin and dried red fruit in the aroma. malty sweet, roasty, oaky flavor with dried red fruit and citrus. vanilla. Silky smooth. Tart. Drinks away amazingly easy. Well hidden alcohol. Excellent!

Tap, Black Squirrel. Darker tan head; completely dense black body. Prunes, dark choclate, roasty, and a good deal of malty sweetness in the aroma. Bitter roasted malt in the flavor at first, bittersweet chocolate, bit of ash and sweetness...not catching any boozy notes. Very thick body, lush, but even with some bubblier carbonation. Dense, but very good.

Pours a pure black color. Has a little dark caramel colored head. Aroma is big time bourbon, oak, malts, chocolate, vanilla, and nuts. Taste is full bodied. Flavor consists of the following: Chocolate, booze, bark, resin, oak, bourbon, and some roastiness. Leaves a chocolate malt finish. Very impressive.

Was really excited about this beer when I found it. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, coffee, oak. Bourbon wasn’t over powering and this was a really easy beer to sit back and sip. Good flavor, well balanced and very well done.
