COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Parabola has been a major component of past anniversary blends and is one of our most aggressive offerings. This beer features bold bourbon and tobacco aromas and a rich dark chocolate, charred oak flavor. Parabola is best enjoyed in moderation and is a perfect beer to pair with those chocolate dessert favs.
An extension of Quercus Alba —the Firestone Walker Barrel aged program. Russian Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels.

Great, dark malty beer, the ABV comes through a little which is okay considering how robust this beer is. The Walker does it again with another solid beer.

At 14 percent you are always going taste the alcohol but this is pretty smooth at the end of day.

Licorice and Spanish cedar aroma. Taste like French roast coffee mildly carbonated with a touch of bourbon as the alcohol heats up mouthfeel .

Parabola ’12 vintage Many thanks to Kevin for the bottle. Pours a black color, with a decent, bubbly head. Aromas reveal a rich Bourbon note among chocolate, coffee and wood. The Bourbon is very well pronounced, hovering on top of sweet, toffeeish malts, bakers chocolate and molasses, well balanced between sweet, earthy and bitter aromas. Toffee and hot Bourbon blend outstandingly well into each other, with coffee playing a balancing role, bittering the nose. Drinks incredibly smooth, revealing the rich, decadent body of the beer, with almost no carbonation necessary to showcase its complexity. While the Bourbon is very prominent on the nose, it is well integrated into the beers taste, due to earthy malts, wood and creamy milk chocolate, balancing the bourbonic impact. It tastes quite hot though, with coffee blending into the oak incredibly well, exhibiting a slightly dry quality, absorbed by sweeter chocolate with lots of cream. The bitternes turns quite prominent, due to the wooden, hot bite, inviting matured hops and coffee to the tongue. Until the very end, coffee and chocolate are on par, leading to a semi-dry, slightly burning finish. Fantastic brew, outstandingly balanced, while providing an amazing depth. Wooden coffee and creamy milk chocolate are balancing the Bourbon artfully, both staying recognizable until the finish, while their taste gets gently transformed due to luscious, slightly dry, warming Bourbon and notes of coconut, as well as vanilla.

Black with dark red/brown head. Lots of bourbon, chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Same characteristics follow in the flavor along with dark dried fruit and vanilla. Expected some soy or fish sauce notes which seems typical of the style, but they never appeared - this is not a bad thing. Full bodied, rich and very satisfying.

The liquid is a deep, impenetrable, inescapable black that pours thick and viscous with a small, sudsy head the color of cinnamon. Some thin spots of lace pepper the glass as the liquid recedes while you drink. Take a whiff and you’ll pick up tons of toasted coconut, some vanilla, charred oak, and maybe even a little tobacco. Your next sniff might reveal espresso, high-cacao-percentage dark chocolate, or the subtle zing of spicy Hallertau hops. A night spent pondering Parabola is a lesson in the merits of restraint. A problem rampant among barrel-aged stouts is that they often let one flavor (whiskey, usually) take the reins and overwhelm the beer. Here, individual flavors are there if you’re willing to look for them, but there’s also a nice synthesis -- like a rainbow, with each flavor fading softly into the other. And what flavors are discernible are mighty fine: first is the darker, bitter stuff like cocoa nibs and espresso powder. Sweeter notes soon emerge, reminding of vanilla beans, toasted coconut, dark plums and cherry syrup. A gentle amount of bitterness (delivered by citrusy/woody Zeus hops) keeps this sweeter stout from becoming cloying. The mouthfeel is blissful, with a velvety smoothness not unlike a milkshake. I want to make a bed and sleep in it. Bubbles massage the tongue lightly and the beer fizzes up only very slightly as it moves. The brewers must also be commended for their skill in covering up the alcohol burn. This is 13 percent alcohol -- nearly liqueur-strength -- and I don’t pick up a hint of it. The drinkability of this boozy stout is downright dangerous. World-class.
