Poured into a mini Firestone Walker tulip at the Barrel Works in Buellton in January. This version of PNC was the bourbon barrel aged instead of Tequila. Pours very dark brown, not completely pitch black like some of their other barrel aged stouts. Has a small brown head that dissipates rather quickly. Aromas of chocolate, almonds, coconut, vanilla and slight oak - not much bourbon present here. The taste is a splash of roasty bourbon but completely dominated by a nice chocolate and nutty "wheaty-ness." Definitely a sipper that is rather sweet. The mouth is left with some roast, but no lasting flavors. I really enjoyed the tequila version, but this a great followup. Not too shabby!

PNC (apparently this version is Bourbon Barrel Aged) on tap at Barrel Works in January. Pours with a black hued body and a large brown head. Tan highlights. Aromas are cola and spicy bourbon, smells a bit like the Bernheim Eclipse. A bit nutty, oak, marshmallow, tannin, coconut and vanilla. Flavors are cola, nutty, fudge, dry alcohol, marshmallow and barrel. Full bodied, creamy, warming.

Black in color with a small tan head. Weird smokiness, tons of roasted malt, licorice, and liquor. An odd coffee aroma, some dark chocolate, burnt sugar, and a pronounced tequila note. The flavor is oddly bitter and quite alcoholic. Lots of roasted malt, bitter coffee, and bitter chocolate. Strong tequila notes, heavy wood, char, and alcohol. Was not a big fan of this one.

Appearance: Pours brown with a bubbly tan ring.
Aroma: Banana, chocolate, juicy fruit.
Taste. Chocolate, dark bread, banana burnt roast, oak.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied modest carbonation.
Overall: Very interesting and complex. Between the buckwheat and the tequila fruitiness, its one of the most bizarre strong stouts I’ve ever had, and I mean that in a fun way.
