Our first foray into the funky world of lambic style beers. These traditional Belgian style ales are exposed to both wild yeast and bacteria, as well as the addition of fruit, during the secondary fermentation. Ours began back in 2010, with the blend of two wheat ales and inoculated with Brettanomyces Lambicus, Brettanomyces Bruxellensis and lactobacillus. We then added ollalieberries—no, that’s not a typo—and waited patiently for two years! The result is amazing: a distinctively, dry, cidery, fruity, vinuous and oh-so sour beer. Bracing and refreshing.

2 Year aged Lambic with Ollalieberries. Pours clear reddish/orangewith a huge amount of fizzy head that quickly faded as it settled. The aroma was mildly acidic, with huge amount of musty berries, slight vanilla and oak along with brett. Up front taste was extremely sour that made your cheeks pucker up quite a bit. The sourness settled out however and did not have quite the punch after a few sips. Very fruity finish with a bready after taste, some light "dusty" or maybe "chalky" qualities. Lots of wine character mixing with the fruit as well. A really well executed sour from Firestone Walker. I tried this beer once before during San Luis Obispo’s Sour Fest May 2012. Don’t recall a fruit taste at all in the beer... I like it a lot better now given some time. Well done!

On tap for Walkers Wild Ride at City Beer. Aroma of berries and Brett. Overpowering sour characteristics and some berry in the flavor. The after palate is also quite acidic. Pretty nice sour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a grapefruit red color. Tart but not over sour. A good taste of raspberry for my palate. Part of Walker’s Wild Ride during LA Beer Week.

(Draught) Pours a murky amber body with a small white head. Aroma of vinegar, berries, caramel, oak, and burning rubber. Flavor of berries, pedio, wood, yeast, vinous, earth, medicinal, and brett.

5/10/12 notes: draft. Pours lightly hazy gold-orange, small head. Aroma is clean citrus pith, kumquat, citric acidity. Flavor has similar dry tartness, bits of residual fruit elements. Full flavored and surprisingly mature.

Draft at Stone sour ale fest 2012. Hazy gold/red with an off white head. Lots of berries, red wine grape, oak barrel character, berry skins, acidic sourness, caramel, and light graininess. I like it. For such a huge sour the abv is disguised amazingly well.

Pours a murky reddish color with an off-white head. Tastes and smells a lot like Fruity Pebbles. A mild vinegar note to both the aroma and flavor, too. A touch of oak, and ollaliberry, maybe some wood, and quite a bit of sweetness overall (I’m guessing from the fruit). Just okay, kind of a let down.

On tap at Stone Sour Fest. I’ve been wanting to try this beer for over a year since I heard about it. Pours a golden, hazy blonde with a minimal white head. Aroma is slightly sour but overall not memorable or overly nice in the glass. Taste is initially slightly sour, then goes to a buttery, malt, liquor finish. No ollaliberry at all here. Also wondering if this beer is the same as described here as I really didn’t get the 11% on this one. sad face.

Tap @ Apex... Poured a hazy, reddish/orange with a moderate, light khaki head. Nose had acidity with mild funk and oak. Nice sourness, not overly tart which was excellent. Some fruitiness, earthiness, wine-like vinous tones, grapes, light cherries. Hints of wood and a light puckering sourness in the finish.

Clear golden orange with almost no head. Pleasant sour green apple aroma and taste with an overly tart vinegar finish. Too much sour not enough balance.
