Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

Bottle, box, girl and the gold watch. Reddish oak colour with almost no head. afroma of caramel, hops and alcohol. flavour is herbal, caramel hops and alcohol. somewhat medicinal herbal and overpowering. Am I alone in running away from the abv? Am I alone in looking fror subtelty? Am i contradicting myself, a hypocite or on the cusp? Do I just want to drown in a pool of SNPA??????

Sampled at DLD ’12. Thanks to drew I believe. Pours a dark brown with a thin head. Roasty sweet malt aromas some toffee and dough with some red fruit underneath. Dough brown sugar flavors with dark cherries and plums buried in there. Nice bitterness but too sweet. 7/3/7/3/14

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2012 Cola brown, thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon, light caramel. Body is medium, not overbearing. Flavor is vanilla/bourbon with light caramel, clean pine/earth hops. General impression is positive, a good sipping beer. Less thick and cloying than expected. Nice.

Clear red ale with no head to speak of. Caramel malts with a little alcohol aroma. Good body and carbonation. Sweet toffee with a noticeable bite. Finish has some dried red fruit. Sweet on the palate before dried up by the alcohol.

Abacus 2011. Aroma is amazing. Sweet vanilla salted toffee chocolate peanut butter, holy shit. Boozy black pepper, caramel. Intense. Some nuttiness... dark copper the white ring. Bourbony wood up front. Chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and bourbon. wow.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2012 Pours a very dark garnet with almost no head and some light lacing left behind. The nose is almost overwhelming. The taste is directly in line with the nose. French oak, tobacco, dark cherry, fig, plum, chocolate, hops dressed in brown sugar, and big boozy bourbon dominate the palate. This is a masterpiece.

Pours a clear, Dark brown and a quickly fading head. The smell is chocolate with hints of oak and Alcohol upfront. Taste is chewy, chocolate, vanilla with alcohol, almost too hot. This one was difficult to rate, very complex. I could not figure out this beer but I really enjoyed this as a scotch type sipper. I’ll let the Sucaba bottle age for a year or so and then try it again.

Golden ruby color. Minimal head, no carbonation. Chocolate and caramel aroma. Taste similar to nose; starts with oak and caramel, ends on chocolate. Great barleywine! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at tasting, pours a dark brown with a nice off white head, the aroma is full of bourbon, oak and coconut, the flavor is very sweet with a good amount of vanilla right away that is backed up with chocolate and a oaky bourbon finish, for sure a big beer and meant for sipping, glad I got to try this.
