COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

Bottle thanks to Bleeg, shared at the May tasting. Pours a dark ruby with a small off white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is vanilla, oak, and smoke. Thick mouthfeel with a vanilla malt flavor with the alcohol present but not overpowering. Enjoyed this barley wine from Firestone.

Pours dark amber with notes of dried fruits (think plum and raisin). The palate shows off the abv but also give serious depth to the bourbon and vanilla flavors from the char of the barrel. You get some deep fruit hints here as well such as plums and dried figs.

Bottle shared by Dan. Clear, very dark brown pour and an aroma of plums, raisins and booze. Flavor is very spicey, boozy prunes, and a little hops along with a hot alcohol aftertaste. Still hot as a young beer, but can only get better with age.

Bomber. Pours a dark brown color with some reddish hints and a nice large thick white head. The aroma is massive sweet bourbon; vanilla, toffee, even a bit of the cherries from red wine barrels. The flavor is amazing; super sweet vanilla, oak, brown sugar, toffee, caramel, lots of heat, dark sour cherries, earthy and very dry. Superb.

No head left; deep brown cola-coloured beer. Dried wood, liquorice, and a touch of pine, ever so slightly smokey. Alcohol already present in the nose. Vanilla, smoked, with the vanilla(beans) returning retronasal with a vengeance. Obvious Bourbon casks, and fruity, estery hints. Very rich, alcoholwarming and a little (welcome) bite in the finish. Superb Barley Wine, especially in the finish. Many thanks to Evan & Matt!

Bottle, big thanks to Boody for finally getting to this one. Aroma has nice rich notes of toffee, dark fruit, vanilla, slight chocolate, bourbon, rum soaked bread, some slight red fruit. A bouquet of flavors start with sweet chocolate, coffee and some cocoa powder, leads into dark fruit, vanilla and bourbon notes, lots of roasted malt with a delicious dry bitter and slightly sweet finish. Very delicious!

Sampled at SIB. Pours a ruby red/brown with fine lacing. Aroma is of dark fruits, caramel, and bourbon. Flavour reflects this, highlighting the bourbon as the main characteristic.Really sweet to begin with, but very well balanced with a woody after taste. Lovely.

Tasted 7/7/11. 22oz bomber. 2011. Pours a nice deep, dark amber hue. Spiraling tan head. Cookie and candy aromas. Dark dried fruit and vanilla. Good woody notes. Wonderful olfactory! Wow! Very full bodied and viscous and sticky. This has a great body. Toasted almonds, creamy vanilla and a huge dose of alcohol. Very astringent in the mouth from the tingling effervescence, bitter hops and high gravity. Flavors of cola and cocoa. Port and sherry nuances. Fudge and graham crackers. Raisins and figs. There’s a lot going on with this one! Hot and high octane, but blended well between the base barley wine and the wood aging. Great stuff!
