3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
9/1/13 22oz bottle given to me in a trade shared w/Luke @ M&D.
Not a big fan of barley wines but thought the barrel aging would sway me. Poured dark brown with a big head that quickly dissipates. Nose has great bourbon characteristic. The mouthfeel seemed thinner than i expected. Taste was really sweet dried fruits. Thought it was a little on the hot side.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I do not like barley wines. Too harsh for my delicate palate. This one was pretty good. Nice flavor, smooth on the tongue, none of the harsh BW burn.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
ok, so im not a fan of barleywines at all, but this one is amazing. one of the most complex flavor profiles ive had of the style(and drank a Stone barley right afterward, and it was amateur comparatively), and could not taste or feel the 13%. revives my faith in the style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle from Sparky, thanks E!) Pours out a clear ruby color. There was a head displayed briefly that was yellow-tan, but this quickly dissipated and all that is left is a sheen which serves as a hint to this beer’s expected viscosity and high abv. Aroma is a wallop of sweetness coming in at all angles. Candies abound of the butterscotch, caramel, and toffee variety. An undercurrent of searing booze hides underneath the decadent aroma, and it adds another component of booze-soaked dark fruit (cherries). Further scents of oak and vanilla arise. The flavor pretty well follows suit with the aroma, but the booze is in greater abundance particularly in the finish than the aroma had led it on to be. Flavors here are a strong dose of coconut, toffee, sugared raisins, possibly dates, caramels, oak and bourbon. Very sweet and cloying. Mouthfeel is far thinner than expected, carbonation is a bit higher than expected, and the searing heat of booze that carries on through the finish was expected. Not bad, but it went a little too overboard with the sweetness.
