Poured from a bomber into a duvel tulip. Pours a dark ruby brown with a finger length beige head that shrinks to nothing. Average lacing. Aroma is dark fruit. Raisins, figs, plums, and malt. Taste is more of the same. Raisin, plum, toffee, caramel, and slight citrus notes. Mouthfeel is sticky and chewy. Amazing beer, can’t wait till i try a cellared one.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a deep burgandy brown with a thin ring of off white head. Nose and taste are sweet of caramel, vanilla, a bit of woodiness. The booze is very well hidden in this brew and it is almost painfully good!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, 04/16/2012. Pours ruby-tinged brown, short-lived beige head, thin lacing. Prominent wood and bourbon in the nose, caramel vanilla with coconut, wrapped around dark bread malts, touch of chocolate and dark fruits, subtle tartness. Taste is also barrel dominated, big coconut and molasses, dark grains and dried fruit, spicy character, bourbon vanilla booze to finish. Full palate, silky and bordering on creamy, long aftertaste, alcohol doesn’t detract. Pretty great barley wine here.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Boxed and black foil-wrapped bomber from 2012, opened in celebration of being granted permission to write my dissertation. Pours garnet red and brown with a short-lived brownish-beige head. Aromas of sweet bourbon, oak, butter, and orange/vanilla. Dark fruit and some alcohol creep in as it warms. The flavor is sweet, sugared fruit, soaked in bourbon. Smoky oak, tons of buttery toast, and light berry are present, with moderate bitterness, cherry/bourbon, and burnt sugar in the finish. Low/medium carbonation, medium/full body, warming, and creamy. Really well done, delicious!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Fine, I won’t tick, I’ll rate this one. Dark brown mahoganey. The aroma was brandy, bourbon, cocoa, vanilla. The flavor was coconut, oak, vanilla, cocoa, faint slices, light fruits. Only flaw was a little heat. FW can do IT! Mouthfeel a tad light and lacking some carbonation spritz.

22oz bottle, 2012 vintage, purchased at Belmont Station. Pours a deep, dark, amber color with an off white head that fades quickly. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, oak. A little syrupy on the palate with light, soft carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, vanilla, oak, chocolate, a little booze, with a sweet, bourbon finish. Very tasty.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 oz. bottle pours a deep mahogany color with a small eggshell head. Huge whiskey aroma with dark fruits in the background. Taste is very potent with a huge sweet body. The oak notes from the aging process is phenomenal. Mouthfeel is pretty thick so definitely sip on it but an absolute prime example of not only a great barley wine but an amazing oak aged experiment. Find this.
