Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

22oz bottle from Beerdy, thanks a lot man! Dark chocolate color with a good little head at first. Smells a little oaky, woody, boozy, shredded coconut, good. Taste is like nice chocolates, hardly a hint of the alcohol, very well done. Overall, this is probably the second best firestone beer i’ve had after FW11. UPDATED: JAN 25, 2014 On tap at Apex 11/4/12. Very sweet (in a good way) with bourbon overtones. Long pleasant aftertaste. On draught at 2014 CellarFest at Bailey’s Taproom 1/25/14. 2011 vintage of Abacus. Burnt caramel color. Aroma is sticky toffee, citrusy caramel, tropical hops, and dark malts. Taste is bourbon, apple, sticky toffee, and molasses. Smooth and syrupy, too easy-drinking for 13%.

Big thanks to Brewkkake for breaking this one out. Thought I had ticked this one already but turns out I was wrong. Very complex aroma, full of vanilla, malts, burnt tobacco and slight booze. Very well balanced and pretty easy to drink.

Aroma: loads of toffee and caramel, vanilla, oak, bourbon, slightly earthy. Pours a dark amber/ruby color, tan head with average retention. Massive, rich malt flavor - lots of toffee, molasses, toast, biscuit, and a touch of dark chocolate. Bourbon and vanilla notes complement the big malt bill nicely, medium bitterness. Alcohol notes are pleasant and warming, no harshness. Full body, low-medium carbonation, smooth on the palate. Excellent brew, very rich and complex.

Poured from a bottle thanks to storminorman. Thanks! Pours a dark, translucent brown with a thin beige head of foam. The aroma is intense vanilla, wood, caramel, and tobacco. I wish I had a cigar to accompany this beer. The taste is semi-sweet with notes of vanilla, bourbon, and oak coming through. This is one delicious beer. It’s the type of beer I just don’t want to end. Too bad the bottom of my glass had to make an appearance...

22oz bottle that my sister-in-law brought back from Denver, thanks Alyssa! Pours a cloudy, deep brown colored body with a bit of a ruby hue. Finger-width, frothy and creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is big caramel and toffee malts with a moderate sweetness and plenty of oak and warm bourbon. Raisins, touches of vanilla, a hint of chocolate, and a leafy earth. Flavor is awesome and pretty complex. Sweeter toffee and caramel up front before the barrel comes on nicely with lots of oak. Solid vanilla note, leafy earth, raisins, coconut, and toast before the bourbon grows a bit with a light chocolate and tobacco note towards the end. Finishes smooth, warm, mostly dry, and just a tad bit sticky with the barrel thinning the body very slightly. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full body and a light carbonation. Overall, a really nice, bigger barley wine with great barrel aging. Complex and warm, but not boozy with a solid malt backing. Excellent.
