UPDATED: SEP 12, 2012 Bottle at CAH. Pours a brown withwitn a red hewwith with some head. The nose is leather and whisky and black strap molasses. First sip is sweet with malted barley, coffee, bourbon, molasses & smoke. A nice mouth feel that will get nothing but better with age. The finish is whisky but not too boozy

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
(22 oz. bottle via trade with IrishBoy, thanks Richard!) Pours dark ruby with a small beige head. Aroma of bourbon, wood, caramel, coconut, vanilla, chocolate and a trace of molasses. Would love to keep smelling but I couldn’t wait. Mouthfeel is smooth, soft, buttery, silky, slightly sticky. Fine syrupy film and light traces of lacing briefly coat the inside of the snifter. Flavor of bourbon, wood and warm coconut. Warm, smooth chocolate, caramel and bit of molasses. Massive ABV is well-integrated and warming. The warm bourbon and coconut combo is really the killer here. Outstanding in every way.

Pours jet black with a small white head and no lacing. Aromas are dog blanket, soy sauce, and sticky sweet malt. The taste is alcohol, cherry, tobacco, and sweet malts. Overall pretty good but it doesn’t touch their 14th anniversary.

[Bottle] Deep mahogany hue. Big raisin, prune, malty aroma. Deep complex palate, plenty of english toffee, pruney malts combined with a tempered citrussy finish. Notes of licorice and chocolate add some complexity and depth. Burnt treacly aftertaste too.

Bottle thanks to Owen. 2011 vintage. Pours a dark dark brown with a rocky cream coloured head. Amazing nose shows plenty of sweet malt and dark caramel. As it warms slightly vanilla, coconut, dark stone fruits and some dark chocolate becomes more apparent. Great stuff. Flavours are very much in line with the nose. Sweet dark and very intense. Full mouthfeel. Amazing beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2011 Bottle: Pour is Dark Brown with amber highlights; This off white head retains on the average side, but it does not disappear . I have to say ; I am in love with this beer. Bourbon, Vanilla, booze, cocoa, marshmallows on the nose ; This brew is fantastic on the tongue, however. Why? Because it is incredibly smooth - Coconut, bourbon, cocoa, vanilla, oak on the tongue ; a bit of booziness. Cream from the head, at least initially. Deceptive ABV here - fantastic, sweet sipper here. As I said - I loved it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1 liter growler from Bowery Whole Foods. Clear deep ruby brown with a short-lived 1/2 finger beige head. Big bourbon and brown sugar caramel nose, followed by moderate vanilla and old woody notes. Some moist tobacco is also present. Flavor follows suit with dominant bourbon and raw alcohol notes dominating with the caramel and brown sugar. They don’t blend entirely well, though. The raw alcohol, the wood, the bourbon, the malts just don’t quite meld together for me. Finish was semi-dry with bitterness peaking at a 2-3, some alcohol heat noted--about par for a 13% beer. Low carbonation with a full body. Good BA BW, but I seem to remember it being tastier when I had it from a growler at Woodshop in early ’10. As well as this is done, I still think the first bottled version of Marin BA Old Dipsea (not the waxed brett one) blows this out of the water.
