2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle shared at a tasting - Pours cola color with a ring of tan head. Pretty sharp and boozy on the nose. Sweet malty notes, but really hard to tell cause this one is so hot. Taste is the same--hot and oaky, with toffee and caramel, but lots of strong, sharp heat takes over and remains through the finish. Butterscotch on the long finish. Burns the mouth a bit. Wow...this was terrible, and I was expecting it to be fantastic.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber thanks to PintPlease.
Appearance : Deep clear amber with small white head.
Aroma : Big sweet malt with fruity hops. Light resinous notes. Very light oxidation maybe. Light licorice.
Taste : Licorice with sweet fruity plums and raisins. Awesome caramel with some resinous hops. Finish has a lot of raisins with light resinous hops. Not much alcohol.
Overall : Wow this was good. Awesome sweetness balanced with the resinous hops ans the light alcohol. Delightful caramel. The Bourbon is not very present but adds to the complexity and to the richness. Very well balanced and very tasty. My kind of Barley Wine.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 7, 2014 2011 bottle enjoyed around release time. Brownish copper pour with streaks of white head and lacing. Nose of caramel, toffee, malt, and all of the usual BW suspects. Taste adds vanilla, and darker fruits. Slight bitterness that will likely go away with time. Good BW.
Updated - cracked a 2011 on 4/7/14. Aging has not really added anything to this beer. If anything it has maybe lost some of its original sharp tasting notes. Now that I have had several BA BWs I find this to be a bit thin in comparison.
