Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

I am at hater of this top rated beer. Way too strong. The bourbon has a huge bite and it almost has no stout flavoring. Pours dark brown in color. Had at bittles and cans ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650 ml bottle from Bier-Deluxe. Vintage 2014.

Very dark red colour. Aroma of strong berries and fullness. Flavour is woody, strong and rich. Full x 6 bodied. Superb. I love this brewery!

2013 vintage. on 10.15.14 Deep ruddy mahogany with a little brown head. Dissipates, but lacing down the sides. The bourbon barrel steps forward offering itself first. Sweet and boozy dark fruits, vanilla and tobacco. Taste follows suit: sweet bourbon starts us off, with some oak and vanilla Prunes, leather, raisins... all the things you want and more! Yummm Super smoothe. Alcohol is incredibly well blended in, as it manifests itself more as a light spice than any sort of heat. Not sure if that’s it being a year old or if that’s just the masters at FW doing their thing. Mild carbonation doesn’t get in the way of the sticky, medium body. Finish 1s sweet initially (thanks Abbey), but has a touch of bitter... closer to the tobacco on the nose than a particularly hoppy note.

Transfer from BA review on 4-10-14- Poured from bottle (2013) into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a super deep copper color with thick tow finger of tan colored head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite a caramel and toffee smell mixed with a ton of fruit aromas ranging from darker stone fruits to lighter fruits. Apple, cherry, raisin, are the strongest with hints of other fruits within. A good deal of oak and lot of bourbon booziness are there as well creating a very warming smell overall. Taste – The taste begins big caramel and butterscotch flavor. A big bready and doughy flavor is there as well. A bourdon and vanilla flavor begin working their way onto the tongue along with the caramel and toffee transitions to a molasses and brown sugar flavor. A ton of oaky bourbon booziness hits the tongue toward the middle to the end of the taste with some dark fruit flavors starting to be sensed as well. The booziness gets a bit hot at the very end and is combine with a bit of a herbal and earthy hop flavor to leave a very warming and sweet flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both are quite appropriate for the style and match the huge sweet and boozy of the flavors rather well, making for a rather slow sipper. Overall – A bit on the boozy and oaky side with a ton of sweetness. A rather robust Barley wine. Not one I would likely frequent frequently, but a nice on to try none the less.

Pour murky mohogany-reddish brown, with a small off-white head. Aroma has plenty and plenty of barrel character. Banana, vanilla, toffee fudge, slight dark fruits, slightly boozy, bourbon, almonds.. Pretty complex, with the barrel well integrated. The taste is pretty sweet, with very faint notes of "old hops bitterness". Oily n’ medium bodied, with a semi-flat carbonation.

2014-09-26. Nice dark brown body with a small beige head. 4+ Aroma is big and boozy, bourbon? Notes of caramel. 7+ Flavour is similar, sweet rich alcoholic character, light wood character grows. Bitterness in the finish keeps it from becoming too sweet. 7+ Smooth average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Alcohol is restrained considering. Bottle shared by Blankboy/

2011. Smells very oaky. Looks like a delicious barleywine, tastes like a delicious barleywine, MUST BE A DELICIOUS BARLEYWINE! Really good. Some vanilla in the flavor with oak and caramel notes. Delish.
