3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: Pours a dark cherry mahogany ale. Less than single finger of light tan head falls to a broken sheet of the same. No lacing. When agitated, head replenishes and then falls once again.
S: I like the way this smells. Sweet vanilla, nougats and caramel. Some hints of cherry. It reminds me of a white chocolate Idaho Potato Cherry flavored candy bar, if you know what I mean...
T: Plenty of sweet butterscotch, vanilla, oak, cherries. The alcohol is a bit hot here. The taste profile is less than impressive, but with a year or two on it, presuming the toffee tones in the malts would come thru, this would be world class. As it warms, the alcohol continues to have more and more presence, not cool.
M: A bit thin for the style IMO. Carbonation is moderate and persistent, not bad, would prefer a little lower.
O: I think this is a nearly exceptional barley wine. I might pick up a few more just to age them, but I have less than high expectations for this to continue to excel. It will either thin out and fail to build the smooth feel I really appreciate from good BWís, but then again, you never know. Iím nearly on the fence with this. Itís good, but not terrific.

Huge aromas of dried fruit, bourbon and vanilla. Taste is super smooth with loads of sweet malt backed up with oak and vanilla. Super smooth finish that gives a nice warming sensation. One of the best barleywines I have ever had.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Boozy chocolate aroma; deep amber appearance with a tan frothy head; big, boozy, chocolate malt taste; quick, intense fizz on the palate with a dark-chocolate-like bitter finish; overall, tremendous, big and boozy, but balanced instead of cloy

Amazing work on the malt, really complex with a good balance. Some vanilla notes. Taste: amazing complexity on mouth really interesting with good equilibrium of malt and hops. 5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Bottle from trade. Thanks Boltz! Shared with Pete and Gail. Let me just say I donít think Iíve ever rated a beer at a 5. This one won handís down. I was nearly depressed when I drank the last sip because I wanted more. Snifter glass. The pour was a deep amber with an almost golden hue. One finger head slowly lingered. Great lacing at first and then an almost enchanting swirl of leftover head throughout. The aroma was maybe the best ever. Strong performance of wood barrel, booze, malts, caramel, toffee and dark candies. The taste matched the aroma in quality and strength. Toffee, caramel, vanilla, malts, oak, candied sugars, and bitter chocolates. Perfect mouth feel of almost creaminess. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. I canít wait to have another one of these.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.

22oz bomber (2013 vintage) from Brick Spirits. Shared with my squad after work. Pours a murky amber/brown color with a small creamy tan head. Lots of floaties. Aroma is boozy, with lots of malty caramel, oak, and hints of chocolate and vanilla. Taste is similar. Booze, chewy caramel, dark chocolate, earthy hops, oak, and vanilla.
