COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

2012 release, new name, same beer. Bottle pours clear reddish brown with no head. Aromas are faint, and a a little booze and some wood. Taste is chocolate, booze, oak, caramel, some fruit like raisin or black cherry, and vanilla. Very complex, very delicious. Not overly sweet or dry, not overly hopped. The complexity really makes this beer. Body is medium and a bit thin, but the beer is viscous and pretty highly carbonated. Overall, a delicious beer that is great as a sipper.

Crrrazy brew thanks to OmegaX. It pours a nice ruby body, and a nice plush off-white head that is very appealing. Aromas of cherries, molasses, cocoa, bourbon and vanilla entice the senses - quite the complex scent. With a mouthful of caramel, chocolate, cherries and brown sugar, this brew is complex and intense as it warms up. Finishes with a hint of wood and bitter/dry hops, the palate is complete on this one. Yay.

Abacus 2011 Version
Tasted on 3/7/12 from a 650mL bomber bottle purchased at Sun Devil. Pours an opaque dark amber with a thin tan head that leaves thin, even lace. The nose is dominated by caramel, toffee, coconut, and vanilla bourbon, with tons of oak, and a touch of sweet, wet tobacco and unidentifiable fruits. The flavor is just the same, with the dark fruits and wet tobacco, moving to caramel, toffee, vanilla, coconut, and oaky bourbon. The body is full and oily with just lighter than average carbonation and a long caramel, toffee, and oaky bourbon finish. At 13% alcohol, this beer is scary drinkable.

From tap at Toronado, Barley Wine Fest. Pours clean dark brown with a small creamy and tan head. Liqourice, molasses and solid caramel malt flavours. Sweet yet not sticky. Dark malty note slowly lingering into the finish. Dark caramelish lasting impression.

Aroma is very complex and the initial smell is more that of good bourbon than beer. It is followed by a leathery, tobacco smell that fades of to that of a slight bitterness. The appearance is a darker amber/red color with a khaki head. The taste is just as complex as the aroma. The initial taste is sweet bourbon that is followed by a slight bitterness that is quickly beaten into submission by the malt flavor. Great beer with not too much bourbon flavor

Glowing caramel pour with a slight fizzy head. Aroma is fruity, very boozy, some bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, dried fruits abound. Mouth feel is slick, oily. Very hot, but loads of dried fruits and bourbon in the flavor, very refined. Tasty but very boozy, we will see what time does to this guy. Excellent
