Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

Bottle from henrietta store, 17$. Pours a dark amber looking similar to maple syrup without the syrup. Head fades rather quick. Aromas of coconut, whiskey, cherry, bourbon, and a little cake. When going down the hatch, the alcohol comes through upfront almost strong. The coconut, cherry, caramel and oak/whiskey come through mostly. Little notes of vanilla as well. The alcohol really burns through the nose with sips so the smaller the sip the better, as it will be harder to enjoy and find the complexities. Medium sweet with almost no aftertaste and nothing that lingers. The oak/whiskey flavors are more subdued here. This is a malty brute that should be aged to enjoy it as it should be enjoyed. Bottled 1-5-12.

The color of this beer is a deep, clear garnett that is almost too dark to see through, and there’s a small light tan head that fades quickly. The aroma blends raisins, bourbon, oak, cherries, booze, and caramel malts, and the taste is mildly sour, mildly sweet, slightly umami, and a touch bitter due to the dark fruit, boozy, and toffee flavors. The aftertaste is boozy and astringent, and the palate fuses an oily texture, nearly flat carbonation despite the bite created on the tongue, and a medium-full body.

Bottle. Pours a hazed ruby brown with a big whitish head that goes away fast One of the worst smelling beers I’ve encountered in a while. Smells of nail polish remover old meat and farts. Strangely tastes not too fucking shabby. Vanilla and a savory wood note accent the Chocolate covered cherry note well. Just can’t get past that smell.

Tap at CBC 2014. Brownish-red in the glass. Alcoholic-malty aroma. Starts intense alcoholic-malty, sharp, burning. Fruity warming finish. A bit too alcoholic, but still okay.

On draft at High Street. Nice full aromas and tastes of Earth, woog, vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate and coconut. The blend was perfect and really poped once it warmed.

2013 bottle split with my wife during some of the last rounds of fridge clearing. Pours red ruby with a dark tint. Ample cream hued foam head. nose of bourbon, vanilla, and booze. taste follows this theme with additional dark fruits, toffee, caramel. Body is big, booze burns the throat, warming. I enjoyed this and made by back feel better since it numbed it.

Bottle pour at Beer Camp. Dark copper in color, beautiful aroma of wood, malt, and chocolate. Taste is warming, and slightly boozy, but not over the top. Has medium mouthfeel with tastes of oak, roasted malt, chocolate, and even some cherry. Nice beer, and glad I had a chance to try. The guys at Firestone only had a few bottles to share at Beer Camp.

Bottle shared by some nice folks. Pours a cola brown with tan head. Aroma is nice, some vanilla, oak, coffee, with some caramel. Taste was delicious, flavors of coffee, caramel, vanilla, and booze all intermingling together nicely.
