Tap at brewery. Semi-hazy golden caramel pour with a slight froth of tan foam. Aroma is soft and subtle with lightly toasted malt, a bit of nuttiness, and minimal malt sweetness. Taste is more robust than the aroma with roasted malt, dry toasty notes, nuts, some supporting hop bitterness, and a clean, dry finish with a hint of malt sweetness. Even, balanced, and quenching. Good beer.

(Draught) Pours a clear orange body with a small white head. Aroma of grain, caramel, and mustiness. Flavor of grain, earth, wood, and caramel with a dry finish.

Firkin at Beer Revolution. Pours a cloudy bronze amber with a small fluffy, white head that has very good retention and leaves a ton of lacing on the glass. The aroma is caramel malt, some earthiness, a decent amount of oak as well as some breadiness. The taste is biscuit, caramel, some earthiness, and a decent amount of oak. It has a bready finish with a light bitterness. Relatively dry. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Quite enjoyable. I liked this significantly better than the regular double barrel ale.

Poured from the cask at Get Real NY - Tons of oak on this. Maple syrup and sugary malts. Smooth body, though a bit light, thin hops on the finish, ton of wood. Decent.

On tap at Firestone taproom. Hazy amber with off-white head. Stale caramel, oak, corn and grains. Light, well carbonated, off sweetness on the ending. Was not a big fan of this - maybe just not used to unfiltered beers.

Cask at Get Real New York. Amber pour. The nose is intensely oak. Rich vanilla and a bit of light fruity hoppiness as well. Sort of muted hops and light fruit. The oak is a little too forward here for me - all oak and nothing else.

Pouring at Get Real NY. Pours a clear orange gold with a thin white head. Big spicy wood, which overpowers the light hops. Toasty and sweet, caramel and malt. Thin hop flavor, very slowly developing. Nice idea, but the execution was a bit lacking for me. Gentle bitterness on the finish, but muted.

Cask at the Get Real NY Cask Ale Event with Andrew, Streets, Brendan, and Linh. Pours a hazy golden body with notes of light.

On tap at the brewery. Lightly Hazed golden body with an off-white head. Aromas of caramel, fruit, oak and grainy. Flavors are very oaky, tannic and fruity. Caramel and dry. Medium bubbles. Absolutely delicious.

A: Pours a dark amber color with plenty of head. S: Lots of bread from the malt with a decent amount of hops. T: Lots of caramel, brown sugar, sweet malt, and a bit of hoppiness. M: Nearly full bodied with lots of malt and a good amount of carbonation. D: A good brew, but not something I’d like to have too many of. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-01-2009
