An instant classic, Union Jack is the recipient of numerous awards including back to back wins at the Great American Beer Festival. Union Jack is abound with hop aroma and character. In fact this well balanced, west coast IPA is dry hopped 3 separate times, each lot giving it more and more of the grapefruit citrus hop aroma and flavor it is known for. Overall it utilizes over 4 pounds of pacific northwest hops per barrel.

650 ml. bottle. Pours a lasting ivory head, with extensive lacing, over a clear light amber (SRM 7) body....nose is citrus, grapefruit peel, cereal, light toffee/caramel....taste is grapefruit to start, then toffee/caramel sweetness, with hints of floral honey, followed by a pine, citrus lingering bitterness....mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, carbonation adds creamy tones. This is a well balanced, not overly bitter, nicely complex, "American/Left Coast" IPA. BJCP 7/3/15/4/8

Bomber. Pours clear copper with a fine off-white head. Floral and citrus on the nose. I was expecting more hop punch, but it came off clean and balanced. Medium hop finish. Good, but didn’t knock off the socks.

12oz bottle poured into a Shaker at 45°. Color is a bright gold with very good carbonation and a nice white head. Aroma is hoppy with pine and citrus. It has a lighter medium body with a crisp fizzy mouth feel. Flavor starts with light malt and a touch of fruit then the hops jump out with big lemon and orange citrus and ends with a bold bitterness. In the after taste the bitterness lingers yet the fruit flavors give a mild sweetness at the same time. Overall its a very good IPA.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2012 Nothing like a west coast IPA. Pours a golden orange color with a white foam head. Has an aroma of grapefruit, caramel, and pine. Sweet citrus caramel taste with a nice resiny hop hit. Sticky on the finish. Damn tasty.

This is a fantastic IPA. The flavor is amazing, tons of hops flavor and bitterness, just a touch of maltiness. Very good.

12 0z bottle. Pours a deep golden with a fluffy white head. Aroma is very nice fresh piney and lightly citric hops, herbal and a bit spicy, very fresh hop oil notes. Flavor is also very well balanced, the aggressive hop bitterness, mostly pine with some light fruitiness is balanced by a sweet caramel and lightly biscuity malt. Finishes bitter that lingers a bit. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Pretty tasty IPA

Just like the Double Jack, this IPA was truely outstanding! I sampled this on a beautiful evening at Union Jacks. The beer poured a light amber color with an ample off-white head. The head left some nice lacing around the glass. The body had a delicious and crisp hop flavor. The balance of this beer was a thing of beauty. It had just the right amount of toasted maltiness to balance the bitter and spicy hop profile. This IPA was noticably refreshing, as well.

20 Aug 2011, tap. bright yellow, clear, steady bubbles, thin foamy head. great ipa nose! bitter lemon citrus and sweet pink grapefruit hops w/ enough alcohol to be noticeable. med body and fizzy. some sweet oranges and faint alcohol up front and a lingering, fairly bitter finish. great!

12oz bottle. Pours a clear golden orange with a medium creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet melon and peppery piney hops. A little on the subdued side for an IPA.

The flavor is sweet melon and peppery piney hops that have a good amount of resiny bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lowish carbonation.

Overall, a nice IPA. Very similar to Odell’s IPA. Also, more balanced than the Double Jack (but not as good IMO).

Bottle. Golden orange with a small white head, excellent lacing. Nose of hot caramel, toffee, and an herbal hoppy note. Flavor’s are similar to the aroma with the initial sweetness, spicy hops, pepper, then an earthy and spicy finish with a hint of cinnamon. Something about the combination of hops doesn’t leave me begging for another sip like my favorite IPAs do, but it’s a nicely made beer. I’d love to get a chance to try a fresher bottle, as I think this one may not have been at its peak. If only there was some way to put a date on a bottle indicating how fresh it was.....
