An instant classic, Union Jack is the recipient of numerous awards including back to back wins at the Great American Beer Festival. Union Jack is abound with hop aroma and character. In fact this well balanced, west coast IPA is dry hopped 3 separate times, each lot giving it more and more of the grapefruit citrus hop aroma and flavor it is known for. Overall it utilizes over 4 pounds of pacific northwest hops per barrel.

Bottle post GBBF, Day 2, August 2009. Gold colour. From the name I thought this was going to be an IPA using UK hops and it certainly didnít seem that big on "C" hops. It did have a decent leafy hop character and more isnít necessarily better in every case. Some citrus too. Well balanced, tasty (if relatively subtle) and very enjoyable.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2011 Bottle is a little older than I would like (4 months), but I have never had it so bought it regardless. Clear gold, frothy white head. Aroma of lemon, pine, grass, light grainy sweet malt. Taste is nicely balanced, good amount of pine resin bitterness, nice sweetness present, somewhat fruity sweet. Medium body, medium carbonation. Great price as well. After drinking the whole bottle of this, I started thinking that it was a little thin bodied and the hops werenít really as great as expected. I will get a fresher bottle next time and rerate...... Bought a bottle from a different store. Aroma is much more fresh, full of floral, pine, lemon, peach, tangerine. Taste is a bit tea-like, leafy, herb, floral, not very bitter, lots of tropical fruit and citrus.

Medium citrus and green aroma. Little on the malty side for my palate for a IPA. Overall a decent drinking IPA

Killer IPA; near-perfect. Pours a clear, red-gold liquor with dense, foamy, off-white head that persists. The bouquet is piney, floral, sweet and of medium intensity. The mouthfeel is full with a bracing buttery-smooth hop signature that is a close-to-flawless balance of tastes: sweet malt, floral hops, the right hint of bitterness and a pleasant alcohol burn to boot. The hop finish lingers too. Now they need to begin distributing in Maryland. . .

Pours a rich golden brown with a quickly receding layer of foam. The aroma is dry and piney. The flavor is similar.

Pours crystal-clear light amber, with white foamy, creamy head on top that laces averagely. Smells of pine, and some citrus, with noticeable mango at the tailend, very pleasant overall. There is some malty sweetness as well, giving it nice balance. Taste is fantastic, with mango coming out strong with the resin and sweet malt. Little bit of orange is great too. Mouthfeel is very, very silky smooth, with carbonation not very present, but still enough. Drinkability is great too, alcohol being unnoticeable. Nice tropical IPA makes you want more the more you drink.

Wow. this shit is good even when itís old! Bottle at least 6mo old pours a hazy golden orange. Smells good, tastes great. Some almost honey notes like hopslam. Bitter lingering cat pee finish. Nice brew.

bottle courtesy of Norcalgrowler. Pours a cloudy copper with a nice 1/2 inch white head. Nice citrusy hop aroma, but covered up a little by the oak. Full body. Very bitter, but also very smooth. Hops are covered up a little by the oak character. Almost muddies up the flavor. Not unpleasant, but I prefer a more pronounced hop character. Very good, but not as great as I expected

Bottle. Pours a golden body with an chunky off-white head. Aroma is pretty hoppy, mostly citrus and resin, but very earthy. As it opens up a bit, more of the malt comes through in the nose. The flavor is similar; starts pretty hoppy, but moves on to a more malt-forward IPA as it warms. Overall, a very good IPA. Definitely moving this into the regular 6-pack rotation.

WOW! I didnít expect much from this brew, but it delivers in a big way. appearance is a nice copper color, the right amount of carbonation, piney taste. As good as any other California IPA.
