An instant classic, Union Jack is the recipient of numerous awards including back to back wins at the Great American Beer Festival. Union Jack is abound with hop aroma and character. In fact this well balanced, west coast IPA is dry hopped 3 separate times, each lot giving it more and more of the grapefruit citrus hop aroma and flavor it is known for. Overall it utilizes over 4 pounds of pacific northwest hops per barrel.

Date: August 6, 2011 Mode: Bottle Source: Total Wine, Las Vegas, NV Appearance: Translucent golden, slight amount of head and some lacing. Aroma: Hoppy, citrus and pine. Flavor: Mild carbonation, medium bodied, starts sweet citrus and quickly fades to piney bitter finish that lasts. Other: Very enjoyable ipa and was better that the double jack due to its excessive alcohol taste.

On tap at the brewery, served in a snifter. Pours clear golden with a small, off-white head. The head fades slowly to a thin remnant, leaving behind a small amount of lace. The nose has intense, sharp citrus, grapefruit and pine, along with flowers and toasted grain. The flavour is moderately bitter and moderately sweet up front, but the sweetness fades. The finish is long, bitter and peppery. On the palate, it is medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice IPA. It is more bitter and assertive than the Nectar IPA; whereas Nectar is more floral, this one is more citric and much more bitter. The finish is also more intense. Overall, this is the better IPA of the two. Very fresh and very well done. 2011-06-08

Amazing aroma of honey, hibiscus, and caramel. Flavor is light citrus and a dry mushroom-like earthiness. The beer is thin on the palate, but still lots of flavor.

Great IPA. Aroma is very well done. A true IPA. Had this at a wine festival of all places. Firestone has made a Double Jack which is a great double of this beer. Their passion for the Pale is obvious. The only thing I would criticize would be the slightly overbearing aftertaste; but it is an IPA so I am willing to overlook.

On tap @ Yard House Costa Mesa. Copper colored brew with a nice white head. Lovin the aroma - citrus and pine hops, lots of pineapple and some malt sweetness. Flavor is incredibly balanced - tangerine, resin, and spice all backed up by a nice caramel malt. Delicious.

Bottled 6.6.11, c/o Gription79. Pours clear, bright orange and yellow, with a thick 2-finger off-white head. A thick ring of creamy lacing remains as I drink this. The aroma is spicy citrus and sweet doughy, bready malt. The flavor is mild pine and sweet citrus peel, sweet caramel malt, and some cocoa. The finish is bitter citrus. Medium carbonation and body, a little warming, and nicely refreshing. Good stuff. Thanks Dallas! [759]

Clear golden pour with a fluffy white head, excellent retention. Classic PNW hop aroma with some citrus, pine, touch of caramel, slightly grassy - I would guess that the aroma hops are Columbus, Cascade & Centennial. Medium body, tingly carbonation, almost undetectable alcohol warmth. This one is balanced all the way from the front palate to the finish. Sweet and bitter are fighting to a draw. Long, dry finish. A remarkable IPA - especially at this price point!

Sample at taproom. Light amber with white head. Hops are up front, grapefruit and a bit of pine less so. Bitter all the way through, good carbonation, well balanced apart from a bit too sweet towards the end. Nice laid back dry and bitter finish.
