Alasdair (76), New Zealand May 9, 2009 big citrus and malt aroma. Big, chewy malt character with serious bitterness. The balanced finish makes it dangerously drinkable, but it is almost too chewy. raphael (411), Portland, Oregon, USA May 5, 2009 Grapefruit with a little resin i the roma, distant caramel. clear amber with modest head. flavor well rounded but a little dilute, as is the bitterness. donfardz64 (406), Wellington, New Zealand May 4, 2009 355mL bottle from beerstore.co.nz.
Pours classic IPA amber, crystal clear.
The aroma is massive, brimming with piny US hops. I love those things! There is also a substantial amount of malt barely getting through the hops – but it’s there. Pepper and orange peel aromas also there.
Your palate is assaulted with hops as soon as the beer touches the tongue. Cloyingly bitter, those 70 IBUs definitely come through. Resiny hops coat the mouth with pine, bitter grapefruit like citrus and pepper. The finish is long, and the hops just don’t quit. It’s wonderful.
I thought this one is a little unbalanced, but definitely one of the best IPA’s I’ve had. Perhaps some malt flavour would have mellowed that peppery hop, that’s what was getting me.
arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA May 4, 2009 I got this bottle in a trade with Weibull, thanks! The color is a golden orange with a small soapy head. First sniff makes me smile, nice hoppy grapefruit citrus aroma. The flavor is also hoppy with more grapefruit but is not at all unbalanced. This is a very good IPA but what do you expect given that it is from California? Oh, the 7.5% is not noticeable to the taste, nice.

Appearance is clear copper with a very well maintained off white head. Flavor is a little more hop forward than the aroma, but still has a very good malt balance with a little more noticeable roast character. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with a very well maintained cream colored head. Overall, a big, very english brew. My only warning is to make sure to enjoy it cold, if this wams up that earhty note turns almost to dirt. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 30, 2009 Draught at Najas Place. Pours clear gold with an average, white head, lasting with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, meal), heavy hop (flowers, perfume, pine), average yeast (dough, sweat) with notes of peach, pear, and apple. Medium bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness. yalnikim (776), Wellington, New Zealand Apr 27, 2009 Updated: May 3, 200927/04/2009. 330ml bottle from www.beerstore.co.nz (bottle 01/26/2009). Balanced nose. Big biscuit dough and toffee malt with a huge resinous hoppy character all the way through. Herbal, spicy, pine. Very bitter. Really nice, possibly just a little too clean if I’m going to criticise - but hey, it ain’t English. Fairly dangerous... HonkeyBra (1270), Lemont, Illinois, USA Apr 26, 2009 Had this are DLD 09. My girlfriend got me a glass of this. Awesome hoppy aroma. And amazing hoppy flavor. Easily one of the best IPAs i’ve ever had.
