An instant classic, Union Jack is the recipient of numerous awards including back to back wins at the Great American Beer Festival. Union Jack is abound with hop aroma and character. In fact this well balanced, west coast IPA is dry hopped 3 separate times, each lot giving it more and more of the grapefruit citrus hop aroma and flavor it is known for. Overall it utilizes over 4 pounds of pacific northwest hops per barrel.

22 ounce bottle. Hazy golden color, scant head. Aroma of orange peel and lemon. Good balance of bitterness and aroma, tipping the scale slightly toward bitterness. Nice combo.

Bottle. Brilliant orange-gold, slim beige collar with lace dabs. Bright, honeyed hop aroma; fresh apricot, pineapple jelly, blackcurrant fruit pastilles and a greener, background tomato vine note. Bittersweet and perfumed with a balance of jellied red fruits, papaya and digestive biscuits dripped with honey. Loses some body as it warms, but I’m nitpicking. Classy IPA.

Really as close to perfect as you can get for an IPA, in my book. Nose full of pine with some toffee notes, same in the taste with added caramel and a great bitter aftertaste. Incredibly well-balanced ale.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2011 From cask @ Rattle N Hum. Amber with a touch of haze and a small white head. Very strong hoppy aroma with some herbal and earthy notes. Dry and fairly bitter. A very complex and enjoyable IPA.

Nice amber color, 1 finger head, tiny bubbles rising up. Smells good! Citru, malty, pineapple lite sweetness with piney hop background. Taste is clean and crisp earthy-pine big hops up front, then easy on the malts, citru and fruit sweetness, excellent! Medium body, good hop bite and dry with lite-medium carbonation with mild alcohol warmth and sweet notes in the finish. Goes down easy with hops out front and all other ingredients holding down a very nice balance -very crisp and refreshing. I’d buy again without hesitation. A top 5 on my list for this style.

hazy orange pour from the bottle. Packed with caramel malts, fruity hops. grapefruit, lemon and citrus. Dry breadiness, sweet caramel. bright tingly carbonation. Finishes with the light touch of astringency. Very well balanced and tasty!

Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy orane with a nice dense off white head that laces well. Enormous herbal bouquet- oily hop resins, sticky grapefruit and chamomile like herbalness. Creamy body with a soft carbonation. Quite herbal and spicy. Clean with a big hop presence. Hempy, piny, spicy, minty, huge herbal character, almost tea-like. A great IPA.

Big fresh hoppy nose: citrus, apricot, dank. Flavor goes citrus, apricot, a touch of malt, ctirus zest and finishes on a solid bitter note.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a white frothy head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, and with a little citrus. Taste follows the aroma pretty much exactly. Dry and bitter finish. A nice warming feeling once it hits the stomach. Sticky, smooth and very good.

Bright and clear golden-orange beer with big tropical fruit-hop nose (Centennial?). Fairly sweet and juicy with a moderate bitterness that is restrained enough to preserve drinkability. Finishes a bit dry, thankfully. Great stuff.
