An instant classic, Union Jack is the recipient of numerous awards including back to back wins at the Great American Beer Festival. Union Jack is abound with hop aroma and character. In fact this well balanced, west coast IPA is dry hopped 3 separate times, each lot giving it more and more of the grapefruit citrus hop aroma and flavor it is known for. Overall it utilizes over 4 pounds of pacific northwest hops per barrel.

355 ml bottle courtesy of my secret santa joeneugs. Pours clear golden with a rather small frothy white head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is tiny sweet, slightly fruity, slightly herbal and hoppy fresh with grapefruit juice, lemon balm, caramel, crackers, freshly cut grass, pine needles, dried apricots, star fruit, pineapple, papaya, resin, lemon zest and hints of alcohol. Taste is bitter, fruity, herbal and floral with crackers, grapefruit juice, pine needles, dried apricots, unripe mango, unripe pineapple, lemon zest, orange zest, resinous wood, grapefruit rinds, freshly cut grass, lemon balm and hints of biscuits. Mouthfeel is round, oily bitter, tiny astringent, soft and medium bodied, finish is dry and bitter with crackers, grapefruit rinds, pine needles, unripe tropical fruits, resin, orange zest, lemon zest and hints of moist green herbs. Very tasty! Dry extremely hoppy IPA.

355ml bottle@home (from Bier-Deluxe - bottled on 3/27/14) Slightly hazy light copperish appearance with medium sized white head. Aroma is caramelly, resiny with citrussy and piny hops. Taste medium bitterness and lightly sweetish with some sourness. Palate is medium bodied with oily texture and average carbonation. The finish is dry and bitter. Clearly 5 months has taken its toll on this IPA but still you get a solid West Coast experience.

Bottle at Firestone Walker tasting at Beer & Beyond shop. Almost clear orange-amber with a nice off-white head. Smell - mango, papaya, grapefruit, pine, onions and pepper. Sweet with biscuits and caramel malts backbone, fruity and citric hops, strong bitter finish, quite alcoholic. Med-bodied, syrupy and oily on palate. Not very dry and quite heavy, bordering Double IPA. Still quite solid.

Easily one of the best, most balanced widely available IPAs out there. Pours golden orange. Perfect balance of hops and malt on the aroma and flavor. Insanely drinkable. Had my first one right after a Pliny and it wasn’t far off.

Bottle: Golden color, white head. Aroma is light malty with candy notes, mainly hops with pine and resin aroma. Also some tropical fruitiness. Flavor is malty, sweet, candies, intensive hop notes with again mainly pine and resin, also herbal bitter hops and bitter notes of grapefruit peel. Good.
