On Tap. Pours with a light, rocky, off-white head covering a clear amber body. Great lacing from the tap left on my glass, decent retention aswell. Aroma is of floral and slightly spicey hops, and a light bit of caramel. Taste is a bit watery at first, then a light caramel and biscut malt, followed by a pine hoppy bitterness towards the finish. Watery mouthfeel, light carbonation.

Huge bitter resin aroma. Body is light straw clear with a white head. Lots of different citrus fruit flavors. Grapefeuit, pineapple, mango, maybe some passion fruit. Very juicy and very tasty.

Easily one of the best, most balanced widely available IPAs out there. Pours golden orange. Perfect balance of hops and malt on the aroma and flavor. Insanely drinkable. Had my first one right after a Pliny and it wasn’t far off.

Bottle: Golden color, white head. Aroma is light malty with candy notes, mainly hops with pine and resin aroma. Also some tropical fruitiness. Flavor is malty, sweet, candies, intensive hop notes with again mainly pine and resin, also herbal bitter hops and bitter notes of grapefruit peel. Good.

January 2nd, 2013 - Firestone Walker is the drinkable California pride. Adorned with bears and barrels and other iconography that makes up a bright and old-fashioned coat of arms, Firestone Walker feels like an old hand in a field of young and upcoming breweries, making consistently good and boozy beers. Today I try their IPA, which I don’t see around as often as I would expect. Dressed like many other IPAs (sporting a murky brown body and large, popping bubbles), this looks regular, but the aroma quickly distinguishes it amongst others in the same class. Light and tangy, it brings with it the smell of tangerines and freshly cut orange, and even a little bit of grapefruit sweetness - a crisp smell that plants me in an imagined citrus grove. Its served with a medium body, and a noticeably strong alcohol bite. In fact, I suspect at first that this is a Double IPA. Moderate grapefruits bring the bitter while the flavors of fresh baked bread and some rustiness add layers of depth. Good bitterness, good balance, and the return of the tangerine flavor with a little warmth are the defining features of this brew which makes it seem so much more like a Double IPA than an old fashioned IPA coming out of a sparsely inventoried grocery store.
