An instant classic, Union Jack is the recipient of numerous awards including back to back wins at the Great American Beer Festival. Union Jack is abound with hop aroma and character. In fact this well balanced, west coast IPA is dry hopped 3 separate times, each lot giving it more and more of the grapefruit citrus hop aroma and flavor it is known for. Overall it utilizes over 4 pounds of pacific northwest hops per barrel.

Bottle . A nice orange amber body with a slightly off-white head that had good retention and nice lace. Aroma had a strong pine hop profile which was complemented by nice citrus notes. Good caramel malt base. Flavor had a good hop presence. Mostly resinous with some grapefruit and even floral notes. Caramel malts were merely a balancing act to sweeten the beer. It was just enough to take a little away from the hops with the hops losing its assertiveness. Dry in the finish. Good!

At this point I’m too inebriated to properly rate this beer. I must revisit it though because it’s refreshing and tart and really good.

355ml bottle. Clear golden color with white head. Hoppy aroma, pine, citrusy fruity, grassy, caramel malty. Sweet and bitter like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Clear orange golden color with a fine white head. Nice lacing. Toffee, caramel, over the top tropical and hoppy aroma. Medium (+) body and a fine carbonation. Tad to sweet. To much caramel/toffee, harse fruity, resinous and grapefruit hoppy. Not good. Will like to try a fresher one.

Pours a clear light orange. Smells of pine, grapefruit. Taste is excellent balance of assertive hop bitterness and malt sweetness. I get orange, lime, caramel, toffee, pine. Very solid west coast IPA; among the best widely available.

Aroma: citrus and herbs, something like mango and pine with heather. Appearance: golden color and thin white head. Taste: high bitterness (citrus and pine), some citrus notes, quite dry and one-dimensional. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Quite average, nothing special.

[7188-20150418] Tap. Evergreen hops and light orange peel aroma. Clear, orange brown body with a medium-lasting foamy white head and some light lacing. Bitter evergreen needles hops and sweet orange peel flavour. Medium body is quite bitter. Delicious. (8/4/8/4/17) 4.1

DATE TASTED: August 2, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: watching Naked and Afraid XL... APPEARANCE: quintessential golden amber body with a scarcity of effervescence--surprising...not surprisingly, the head is creamy, thick, white as snow and lacing beautifully as it eases its way to the body ... AROMA: the grapefruit rocks the nostrils; spruce, coconut, fresh biscuit and perfurmed flowers give this beer a tremendously varied profile...the draw alone is an experience ...PALATE: alive with carbonation, with a sizzling finish from teeth to throat that streaks and holds ...TASTE: as promised, grapefruit overloads the senses and dominates the other citrus fruits vying for attention; melon and lemon are detectable; the resinous pinecone is undeniable late; the malt base counters the hops deluge and dams the intensity with biscuit... OVERALL: just another in the long line of West Coast IPAs that could be a ritual with me if I were married to the idea of one style; the flavor crushes the experience through an intense wall of hops...at 7.5 ABV, a perfect balance of strength and sipability...
