Good IPA. Big hop aroma. Hits the back of the tongue with some force. More hop kick than I expected. Finishes off slowly and nice. Something a bit different in an IPA. Not a whole ton of maltyness. Big fan of the overpresent hops.

January 2nd, 2013 - Firestone Walker is the drinkable California pride. Adorned with bears and barrels and other iconography that makes up a bright and old-fashioned coat of arms, Firestone Walker feels like an old hand in a field of young and upcoming breweries, making consistently good and boozy beers. Today I try their IPA, which I don’t see around as often as I would expect. Dressed like many other IPAs (sporting a murky brown body and large, popping bubbles), this looks regular, but the aroma quickly distinguishes it amongst others in the same class. Light and tangy, it brings with it the smell of tangerines and freshly cut orange, and even a little bit of grapefruit sweetness - a crisp smell that plants me in an imagined citrus grove. Its served with a medium body, and a noticeably strong alcohol bite. In fact, I suspect at first that this is a Double IPA. Moderate grapefruits bring the bitter while the flavors of fresh baked bread and some rustiness add layers of depth. Good bitterness, good balance, and the return of the tangerine flavor with a little warmth are the defining features of this brew which makes it seem so much more like a Double IPA than an old fashioned IPA coming out of a sparsely inventoried grocery store.

12oz/355ml bottle, bottled 03/2014, Braufactum cooler Stadelbauer. - Pours lighter than expected, yellow with green inflections, a precursor to the lupuline layers laying in wait...Aroma of pine and citrus pith mainly, a fresh and wet effervescence that promises a bold bitterness, but not without a certain playfulness. Taste: layers of wet pine, more citrus pith and zest as it warms, leaving room for some lean biscuit malts to for the hops to play off against. - I let half of my glass warm to room temp, expecting its 7-hop bouquet to branch out into full-on pineapple and mango exotics, but got nothing more than unrelenting layers upon layers of perfectly layered, even engineered bitterness. - Another West Coast IPA forcing respect, not infatuation.

Fresh!!! Like super fresh. A blast of grapefruit immediately. Aroma is tons of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. Just so good. Taste is nuts. Grapefruit with a subtle tropical juice presence. Just insanely good. Firestone Walker is too good for words. Highly recommend. cheers.

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear orange with a white head. Pine resin and citrusy hops in the aroma. Flavor is bitter and resiny at the start with a ton of citrus and grapefruit hints. Bitter and sticky and lingering.
