4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Clear orange pour with a 1 finger, frothy, off white head. tons of orange, grapefruit, floral and berry candy in the aroma, some caramel, biscuit and cereal backing that up. Flavor offers up some nice cereal and caramel notes up front, hanging on strong as the big hit of orange, grapefruit and berry come in, then some fruity and doughy yeast and a large dose of floral hops and mineral notes near the finish. Medium body, nice creamy feel nearly all the way through, a bit more dry to the finish, moderate carbonation. Fantastic IPA, though it has a heavier feel and ABV% than some beers claiming a DIPA/IIPA designation, so it might not be quite as refreshing as some of it’s contemporaries. However, it makes up for it by being a really well executed, very enjoyable beer.

From a 355ml bottle on 8/2/2015. Pours a clear light golden with a small white head. The nose features dense fruity hops with a touch of caramel malt. Take a sip and it’s very intense and fruity - lots of mandarin and peach, with some tart lemony sour in the mix. The hops are big and satisfying, producing a big, bold, earthy. Very nice stuff.

Bottle. Orange copper color. Aroma of peach and caramelised malt. Taste of caramel, peach, citrus and a nice crispy mouthfeel. Nice, but a bit old I guess.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Classic West Coast IPA with no less than seven (classic) New World hop varieties in it. Fairly thick, egg-white, dense head retaining quite well and leaving ’papery’ lacing on the edge of the glass; colour is a clear and bright orange blonde with no visible fizz, only very lightly hazy with deposit. Lovely but typical American IPA aroma of yellow grapefruit, sweetish toasted onion (the Simcoe!), mandarin peel, pine resin, overripe papaja, sundried tomato, kumquat, cigarette tobacco, biscuit, hemp but not strongly so, strawberry juice, tropical flowers, chicken spices. Refreshing onset of lively but ’clean’ and not (too) estery fruitiness, mango, pink grapefruit, redcurrant, sweetish and sourish well in balance with each other and accentuated with a faint saltiness announcing the wave of hops to come; carbo is softish and well fit for the style. Middle phase is supply, lightly oily, with pleasant biscuity and caramelly malt sweetishness but not overly so; it balances out perfectly with the expected hop finish, gently but thoroughly bittering, earthy and spicy but still juicy, and most of all, yielding a wave of retronasal aromas of citrus flesh and citrus peel, a lot of pine, roasted shallot and exotic flowers. Typical for the style but perfectly executed, like its DIPA counterpart Double Jack. Hugely enjoyed this and now that Moortgat has taken over the brewery, I’m silently cherishing a hope that these Firestone Walker beers will soon hit the Belgian market shelves...

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear orange color with foam ring. Forest hop notes (piney). The taste is bitter tart, yet sweetish like an imperial IPA and with forest hopping. The mouth feeling is quite thick and the aftertaste is bitter and dry.
