An instant classic, Union Jack is the recipient of numerous awards including back to back wins at the Great American Beer Festival. Union Jack is abound with hop aroma and character. In fact this well balanced, west coast IPA is dry hopped 3 separate times, each lot giving it more and more of the grapefruit citrus hop aroma and flavor it is known for. Overall it utilizes over 4 pounds of pacific northwest hops per barrel.

Pours a brilliant clear orange amber with a small frothy head made up of complex tiny bubbles. Lacing sings as it sticks to the sides of the glass. This is what a beer, especially an IPA, should look like. The first whiff of Union Jack yields a tantalizingly complex aroma of fresh mango and tangy pineapple. This is accentuated by a light grassy pine somewhere off in the background. The first taste is sublime. Sweet candy malt hits the palate first, before being washed away by perfect bitterness. As the palate acclimates the beer becomes almost juicy, like you are biting into ripe piece of citrus, again I think of mango, pineapple, and grapefruit. Lots of that heavy-duty lupulin taste hangs out in the middle of the beer, the ones that only the really great IPAs seem to capture. Mouthfeel has medium carbonation, and isn’t watery at all, though it is almost slightly creamy. Despite the initial wave of sweetness up front, Union Jack leaves the palate dry and begging for more.

12 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a one-finger bright white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, pine and dough. Taste is huge on the grapefruit and pine up front with a great caramel malt base behind it. Very crisp. Long finish of citrus and caramel malt. Medium bodied, smooth texture, lively carbonation. Great IPA! Definitely a gold standard for West Coast IPAs.

Bottle sampled @ Firestone Walker Tasting. Thank you! BBF 27/06/2015. This one is a bit older now. Golden, creamy white. Nose is hops, yeast, citrus, honey. Taste is citrus, grass, hay, light honey, light bitterness, touch grapefruit. Light honey body; Okayish but probably too old, weakened.

355ml bottle. Bottled on 06/11/14. Amber colored, thin white head. Grapefruit, citrusy hoppy piney aroma. Flavor is very similar, very fruity, well hopped IPA. Grapefruity and herbal finish. Lovely. Nice balance, full bodied.

Bottle from Mane liquor. Pours a bright, cloudy golden with a white head that dissipates quite quickly but provides good lacing. First smell is grassy, yeast driven aromas alongside some woody notes. Malty roasty cooking flavours and an almost overbearing booziness. Bitterness is hard to describe and doesn’t seem to fit the mould of an ipa.....maybe my tongue is fucked from too many hope forward beers.. i dunno, but this is heavy in the maltiness balance

Aroma: light flowers, light resin and spruce. Appearance: clear gold, small, white, creamy head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: flavour explosion, intense flowers, resin, grass, getting from the initial sweets quite bitter, somewhat dry in finish. Overall: amazing IPA, a bit weak in the aroma, but that and palate are nothing short of overwhelming. Pint at Yard House - The Link, Las Vegas. Score: 3.7

Clear pour, with fine white head. Herby hoppy heavy hitter. Fairly dry, with little sweetness. For the hop-heads.

Triple hopped aroma, cinnamon spice, grapefruit and pine. Taste is simply hop and fruit. Some caramel? Medium body, lots of astringency.
