COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

How: Bottle (22 oz) at tasting. Shared by hackobock, thanks!

>>> A somewhat flavorful but really thin oak aged stout.

+ There’s a nice mix of flavors and nothing is overpowering
+ I like the fruitiness (red fruits), it fits well with the cocoa and coffee features
The body is really really thin for an 8.5% abv stout, in the watery territory

Flavors: Cocoa powder, roasted malts, bourbon (mild), vanilla, oak spiciness, red fruits

Dark black pour 2 finger bubbly espresso colored head. Smells great. Whiskey, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. Taste is weak and so is the mouthfeel. weak, very thin and watery, chocolate and coffee but very thin body. very weird actually and I expected much more but I guess it is only 8%. not one I’d buy again

Bottle shared. Brown black pour with thin tan foam. Aroma is realy fruity, light boozy notes, cocoa, lots of grape, light welchs aroma. Taste is sweet, lots of powdery cocoa flavors, light roasty acidity, a tad watery. Palate is very very thin, dry, light-med carbonation, almost watery. Decent, however quite thin on the palate.

Sample at Tomahawk Warrior’s First Birthday party on 06/06/2015: Brown-black pour with a medium thick khaki head that diminishes gradually to a dense film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate malt, coffee and a hint of dark fruit. The finish is boozy with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Enjoyable beer all around.

Flavor is smooth, molasses and dark chocolate and vanilla notes, roasted malts with light bourbon on finish... Aged two years in bottle, really smoothed over the years... The smooth malty caramel flavor is great. A little bite in the finish once one it warms. Amazing beer.
