COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

2013 version on tap @ Brouwer’s. Pours inky watery blackish brown with medium mocha head that fades quickly. Aroma is dry lightly roasty dark chocolate malt, heavily oaky mid-palate, lightly boozy on the finish. Taste is smooth creamy oatmeal malt, rich milk chocolate, light bourbon and barrel notes. Obviously not as big as most of the other FW barrel-aged offerings, still has plenty of flavor. Though clearly a smaller beer than Parabola or the barleywines.

Thanks to Bytemesis, this bottle poured dark brown with crimson hues, a small off-white head and nice lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, caramel, cocoa, and bourbon. Flavor is silky smooth chocolate with a hint of booze. Awesome!

Pours a near pitch black with the slightest hints of a reddish hue. Small but stubborn head of off white foam. Very nice lacing. The Bourbon dominates the smell with smaller doses of roasted malt and oats. Oats and bourbon share top billing in the taste. Roasted malt, chocolate of the milky kind round it out. Finishes decidedly with that oaty goodness. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Delicious! Thanks Jay! !

Review from memory - sampled at a tasting a year ago. Chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, some caramel and roasted malts, smooth mouthfeel - another excellent beer from Firestone.

Bottle at Vienna tasting February 2016. Many thanks! Clear dark brown colour. This one definitely deserves every point it gets. Really rich and tasty, kind of resemblant to Jack Daniels with the coconut and similar warming finish. But also subtle roasted notes remain, making for a wonderful and memorable experience.
