COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

so, this goes in the right direction. I got the last bottle tonight and watched Caddyshack (a good pairing). Now, the nose goes to the sweet heavy alch alley, and the light brown tea reading clouds lace the pond of translucent black. The mouthfeel is light for this type of beer, so swishing it in my mouth was helpful. But being in the Bourbon-barrel aged catagory, it leaves me a bit underwhelemed in the company of KBS and BCBS, and Boris the Crusher. But I was able to get throught the bottle without zonking out.

Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head from the bomber. The aroma has booze up front with roasted malts, licorice and touch of coffee. Taste has sweetness like roasted fruits, licorice and more booze like whiskey. Very strong and long finish.

A 2013 bottle. It pours a solid lack with a short tan head and lacing. It has a strong bourbon aroma with some dark malt and chocolate. The flavor is dark malt up front with some bourbon and a smooth, oatmeal finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

GABF 2014. Dark brown color with a small head. Coffee and barrel aroma. Big coffee and roasty flavor. Light grains. Lots of berry fruity character. Light vanilla on finish. Very full bodied.

65cl, Vintage 2013, new exclusive American brew, thx alot to Secret Santa!, complex Stout, spicy/malty/roasted and slightly alcoholic/woody, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, good head, good brew, yet very expensive!

Pours a dark brown with chestnut highlights, a nice khaki head and good lacing. Aroma is sort of light with chocolate, mild coffee, faint bourbon and coconut. Taste is milk and dark chocolate, light roasted coffee, vanilla, coconut and oats. Finishes with coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth drinking with a fantastic flavor. Delicious chocolate, vanilla and coconut flavors.

2014 bottle. Not quite pitch black, minimal head. Smells of chocolate, coffee, coconut, oats. Taste is a remarkably smooth milk chocolate oatmeal, coconut, coffee with creamer, vanilla, bourbon. Gorgeous flavors, barrel character is perfectly done. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side, but forgiveable. Nothing more to say, just one hell of a beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014. Black with creamy, soapy khaki head. Beautiful. Moderate smooth roasty. Chocolate. Wood. Smooth bourbon. Vanilla. Coconut. Cherry. No booze. Barrel character doesn’t overtake. Doesn’t cloy. Great dessert sipper. Lighter bodied. Creamy soft and smooth. Finish is semi-sweet. Aftertaste predominately vanilla, coconut and bourbon. No booze or heat. Minimal bitterness. Excellent balance. A treat.

Rich cherry chocolate, coffee, roastiness, cream, vanilla. Taste certainly has more cherry taste than in the aroma. For such a strong flavor, it drinks very light and smooth, might be nicer if it was a little fuller but hard to say, still excellent. Can taste the coconut as well-though I probably wouldn?t pick that out if it wasn?t in the description. Delicious.
