This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2014 2013 vintage, poured into oversized wine glass. Nice head on this one, more black than brown. Not much of an aroma - whats there is almost off putting. Creamy taste but very little coffee and bourbon presence. I do get the chocolate and vanilla. Body is lighter than I expected and wish it was a little thicker. Overall, I expected more from this one but still a tasty offering.

2014 edition. Poured from a bomber into a tulip on 11.21.14. A: Vanilla, licorice, brandy, chocolate, and red grape. A: 2 finger head that quickly recedes to a ring. Midnight black body with red at the bottom of the glass. T: Vanilla and licorice dominate. Chocolate, woodiness, lingering coconut, and nuts are subtle. P: Almost crisp. Its thin and too bubbly for a BBA stout. O: This is a good, complex and balanced BBA stout, but its too subtle for my taste. A higher ABV and fewer bubbles would have been nice too. Its also not as smooth as other BBA oatmeal stouts.

Strong coconut with hints of bourbon. Pours thick brown/black with a thin creamy head. Awesome flavor! Coconut and caramel, tastes like those Samoa Girl Scout cookies, and is super creamy.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Sweet brown sugar, chicolate, crime brle, or sweet aromas. Bourbon and oak are light compared to sweet flavors.

2014 bottle pours black with light cream hued head, silky looking and leaves a nice lacing trail. Nose has mild bourbon, heavy booze presence. Taste is sweet, oats, light vanilla, bourbon. Body is super light, creamy, thinner than I like but I get it. Mild booze burn on finish.

Bottle from Craft. Nice bold notes of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, wood and coconut. It was smooth, full bodied. It warmed the body as it went down. The finish was roast and wood. I loved it.
