COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2014 2013 vintage, poured into oversized wine glass. Nice head on this one, more black than brown. Not much of an aroma - what’s there is almost off putting. Creamy taste but very little coffee and bourbon presence. I do get the chocolate and vanilla. Body is lighter than I expected and wish it was a little thicker. Overall, I expected more from this one but still a tasty offering.

Taster at Churchkey, Washington, DC. Pours oil black with a creamy tan head that lingers. Nose is dark chocolate, expresso, coconut, vanilla, and raisin. Flavour is vanilla, bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, dark dried fruit, roasted malts, and yes, a hint of coconut.

On tap at Stong Ale Fest - 2015. Pour is deep black with a small khaki-colored head and decent lacing. Big coconut, toffee, roasted caramel, light spice, cocoa nibs, espresso, and wood in the aroma. Taste is bourbon, roasted coffee beans, big oak notes, some toffee, brown sugar and prunes. Medium body with soft carbonation. Could use some more body but still delicious.

Bottle, thnx to Vaiz. 2013 vintage. Pours a pitch black beer with a big beige head on top. Aroma has massive bourbon notes, caramel, chocolate, touch of vanilla and some slight notes of wood. Flavor is sweet, bourbon and chocolate with caramel and a touch of fudge. Very nice, long aftertaste, sweet. Soft carbonation, very full bodied. Awesome stuff.

Go Bucky! Bottle from Sarah’s Mart near Wrigley and aged almost a year. For Sue, great stuff and she was a sweetheart as well. Black pour. Brown head. Nose has sweet vanilla, chocolate, some caramel. Taste is sweet caramel, vanilla, some chocolate, light coconut. A bit thin, medium bodied, some alcohol. Finishes nicely bittersweet, leaning to the sweet vanilla side. This is a terrific smooth brew, where if the thickness was more, it would be terrific ... altho that would be Parabola. 15.6

On tap at Belmont Station. Colour...onyx with a thick tan head. Nose...eminently oaky with vanillin, cocoanut essence, dark chocolate and boozy bits. Palate...a big, tannic, oaky flavour/feel opens at the front of the palate, then comes the first wave of vanillin, bursting all around the palate! The cocoanut is big on the soft palate and then comes the dark chocolate aspect, with ganache and dark choc butter cream. The finish is long, oaky and deep with tannins.
